I took my DS last year. He didn’t do the overnight program (signed up too late). But it was well worth the trip. If you’re accepted into an LEP, this is a much, much better time to meet with the LEP faculty and students than the actual Orientation. To me, this was a much friendlier event than the Orientation, because they are still working hard to attract you to the university (expecting that you have been accepted other places and are in the process of making your final decision where to go). By Orientation weekend (for us it was in July), they already know they have you and it’s much more an introduction to college life than so much about the programs and opportunities.

It was a very valuable experience for my son and I. I recommend you attend, even if you have already decided to go to Maryland.

I didn’t do the overnight, but I went to the admitted students’ open house last week. It was very informative for me, especially since we were split by major and had the chance to talk to a professor within our specific major. The only thing that stunk about it was the “breakfast”…it was more like some crappy mini muffins! haha

If you get the opportunity to do the overnight, take it. DS did it last year and loved it. Staying in a dorm and mingling with other students as their day and night unfolded gave him a good feel for the campus atmosphere and student body.

This year he is hosting students who come for overnight visits for both B/K and the regular admitted overnight stays. The two he has hosted so far have told him it was awesome to be able to have stayed on campus and interacted with DS and his friends. He took them to Rt 1, treated them to burgers at some place I cannot remember and just gave them a good walk in the life kind of experience.
