Say what you have leaned through visits, overnight stays, and the spring open house!

i just went to the open house and I LOVEEEE UMD<3333. it's so beautiful and i'm so glad i went..i'm so tempted to confirm my enrollment but i haven't even visited my other schools, haha.

the tours and info sesions were very informative. the people at the business school are amazing and they look very successful and knowledeable. campus tours are informative as well, and everything went very smoothly :)

I went to the Engineering Preview and the Open House. The campus and programs are very impresive. I agree with Whiskers, the information sessions were very informative and everything went very smoothly. It has been our best college visit experience (and we have visitied a couple of Ivy and "Ivy like" schools).

Yesterday was such a great day to go to too.

At my overnight, I learned that while you may assume the honors and scholars dorms don't know how to party, you would be quite wrong.

yesterday was amazing, the weather was absolutely beautiful. i wish i did the overnight stay =( but i think i'm going to marylandd and i'll witness honors partying for myself =P.

i did the overnight stay program and it helped me narrow down my schools a bit more. i really dont like how the campus is situated, although it is beautiful. and as far as partying goes, during my overnight we took a walk down to south campus and chilled with a couple football players (my host dates one of them) and he said that if youre lookin for a party school it isnt maryland. i think its a great school for academics, i really just didnt see much of a hoppin' social life besides what goes on across route 1 at the frats. well i suppose umd isnt for everyone. but congrats to everyone else who loves it im sure youll be happy there. anyways for me: hello madison/ann arbor ! lol

I went and went on the business tour and it was great.

I wish I could have done the overnight stay. kathen what didn't you like about it? That it didn't seem like a party school? I have heard many things from my cousins who go there but I know that partying has been cut down lately. All the social life seems to happen in DC from what I have heard and many people take a trip down the metro to Georgetown to have fun down there. Maryland's social scene focuses around its sports. There is a reason why it has been named with the fans who "pack the stadiums".

I just got into madison last week and I am waiting on Ann Arbor. I don't know how much of a fun place ann arbor is but Madison seems great in the social scene dept. and is great in academics too. Number 1 in parties and it is a great place to watch football. Ann Arbor has the biggest football stadium but there fans aren't to energetic and they have chants that consist of clapping their hands. Some people go as far to say michgan fans just don't care. I would love to go to wisconsin but I have to wait to see the money I receive. If I get into Michigan I probably won't go anyway. Texas is a possibility still but Penn State is all but out. I think that Maryland is where I'll be going because it is instate and I will have 4 cousins with me next year there along with all my buddies from high school.

even then i will visit all my schools. you can't make a decision without seeing what it really is like... I think I'll just spend a night with a cousin.

pretty much the area (college park) didnt appeal to me. i dont like how as soon as you walk off campus, besides that greek area, theres hardly anything reppin umd. ive been to AA a number of times and it seemed like there was a lot more goin on there. but you have a point, i always wondered where the school spirit hides in that huge football stadium lol. as for madison, its just something completely different that im lookin forward to. and its cheaper than michigan for my jersey pocket. so we'll see.

yep, College park itself as my tour guide said "sucks". I really want to go to Wisconsin but being instate I think it is going to be Maryland. You being from Jersey I would say to go to Wisconsin. Just make sure you can handle the cold.:D Wisconsin has tons of school spirt and is a really good school. It is respected as can be seen by their 4.2 peer assessment rating. What do you want to major in? I want business and they don't let kids into business till junior year and the average acceptance rate is a 3.5 into the business program. I am scared that I might not get in two years later and will be out of a major that interests me. It is a risk but it is great school. I just don't like Michigan in general. They are great at sports but they don't really care. THey are great at academics but the price is WAY TOO HIGH for a state school. People only pay that kind of money for private schools but i like the atmosphere in big state schools. I just glad we all have options! I didn't think I would have many options. I even applied to University of Maryland Baltimore County scared that I would get in no where

lol i kind of want to go to a school that isn't crazy party but like, a sports school so there's that nice sports school feeling there. i do not want to resort to drinking very weekend, though. and especially with D.C right next to umd, i doubt i'd resort to partying.

as for umich, a great great school, but it's 10 hours away from me (LI), i hate planes, and it's FREEZING. if i get in, however..i MIGHT visit but chances aren't very high that i'd go..either way, umich could be a prospective grad school later on in life =)

FYI: those of you who went to the business school info session at the open house at UMD friday: if you happened to catch a glimpse of the girl leading you there from cole field house or standing behind the table outside the bschool auditorium, with the pink balloons....that was me.

lol. I walked into Cole as the business kids were walking out. I had to follow someone with pink ballons but it was someone that was inside the cole stadium...

That person was really far ahead of me and i had to squeeze through a lot of people to catch up.

lol lindz--i think you might have led me to the business school haha...hmm, were u takling about how u had to put something "maryland"-ish on before the open house? and then wore like this blueish sweater like thing?

well anyways, i THINK that was you, lol

hmmm....we are SUPPOSED to wear marylandish stuff, in fact i had a maryland hoodie in my bag. but yeah, it was too hot for that so i ended up in a tealish blueish sweater. it was definitely me anyway, there was only one of us going to the business school and it was me with my pink balloons :)

haha ohhh cool...lol well then it was nice to meet you even tho u have NO idea who i am. what grade are you in?

haha and it was nice to see you in my group even though, yeah, i saw hundreds of people that day in my groups for stuff :P i'm a sophomore...well technically i'm a junior (thanks AP) but definitely not graduating early

Cheapseats- I'm curious--why did you say Penn State is "all but out"? Did you visit it and not like it? My d was accepted to Penn St. University Park, college park, and got a "wink" letter from Richmond , and some other fairly good schools.. Still waiting to hear William & Mary.........She is still leaning towards College Park. What didn't you like about Penn St.?

I just read your previous post--I see your dilemma with the business school thing...............It's really hard...I think peolple are afraid if they turn down a school that is really "good" and go to their state U instead that people will think they are nuts. I told my d to do whatever she thinks is best for her. The larger state schools seem to have a more normal atmosphere, if you know what I mean....

hey marylandgirl, its just the money. I mean I don't know of any reason to go to Penn State for 31,000 over Maryland at 19,000. I have only a 1400 EFC so each dollar above the pell grant money I get and the amount I'll have to pay will be in loans. I'll have about 50,000 more in loans if I go to Penn State and I feel Penn State and Maryland are the same quality. I really think Penn State is great and if I lived there and didn't live in Maryland that is where I would go. Wisconsin is better than Maryland by a greater margin but again I don't think I'll be going there either. Maryland is a good school at a good price. It would take a lot for me to pass it up.

I'll definately look at financial aid packages and I have to visit before I really make a decision. I'll be visiting both Penn State and Wisconsin in teh next month. I'll be going to Maryland this weekend again. So close, so many benefits.

wow, 1400 EFC?? damn, mines was like 15000. haha..ne ways, i haven't visited penn state yet but i kind of REALLYYY loved maryland haha..i feel like it's so close to D.C. and there are so many options there. penn state seems to be just surrounded with...mountains. lol well, i don't know yet, i guess i'll see when i visit!
