Has anyone else been waiting 6-8 weeks??

I am confused as to why dd hasn’t yet heard back from Temple. Has anyone else been waiting between 6 & 8 weeks for a response? She applied on November 1st (rolling), her paperwork/test scores were finalized on the portal on November 13th. Her ACT is a 34, 4.0UW GPA, gobs of extracurriculars/volunteer hours, strong recommendations - and she’s OOS.

She was waiting to hear back from them before we plan a visit… but with it seeming that everyone else is hearing back relatively quickly… she’s losing interest and making plans to visit other schools that were originally lower on her list, but she’s since had time to investigate thoroughly after being accepted.

So - I’m curious if anyone else has been waiting this long for a response?

She’s confirmed that they have all the necessary paperwork… and still she waits. One guy told her on the phone that she wouldn’t hear anything until February… which doesn’t sync with responses here from ppl who applied and were accepted within 2 or 3 weeks in December. :-?

Have you checked on the TUportal? There’s a big lag between acceptance on the portal and receipt of the letter in the mail.

Yep - the Portal just says it could be between 6-8 weeks…

I’ve been stalking Temple threads for a while and have heard a fair number of frustrations regarding the organization of the admissions department. The responses from Temple fans is to not judge the whole university on any failings of this one department.

That said, if I were a betting woman, I’d put all my money on your child acceptance with the Presidential scholarship. It is an automatic scholarship, and I have never heard of it “running out.” If Temple is a top choice, I’d take the chance on visiting even if I didn’t have confirmation of acceptance.

Good luck & aloha!

I’m assuming she’d get the automatic scholarship too - that’s what makes this all the more perplexing. This was the “automatic/safety” school that she was actually excited about visiting (we have several friends from or who went to school in Philly, and they’ve assured her she would love the city)… but that excitement is quickly fading away as acceptances from other universities roll in. It would be different if this were a competitive scholarship - but her stats fit the bill for the automatic full tuition - so where is the confusion and cause of delay for admitting her? It’s a mystery!

She’s applied RD to another school in Philly, so we will likely make the trip anyway. But if Temple hasn’t admitted her by that point, we will withdraw her application and focus on the other school entirely. If they need that long to determine that she would be a positive addition to their university, it probably isn’t the right fit anyway. :frowning:

A school as large as Temple gets a ton of applicants, literally tens of thousands. Chances are, your daughter’s application simply hasn’t been looked at yet. There are loads of people with much lower stats who have gotten in and Temple just isn’t selective enough to deny your daughter for any reason.

You have checked the portal lately, right? At least for me, the portal showed my acceptance about a month before I got an email, and about 7 weeks before I got the big letter.

Try not to worry, I’m actually going through this exact problem with another school.

It looks like your daughter applied using rolling admissions, right? I think that those of us who applied Nov. 1st and received acceptances throughout November & December applied Early Action. They might have pushed your daughter’s application review back (even though she applied at the same time) because they have a commitment to finish all Early Action applications by January 10th. I’ve also read/heard that the amount of applications has greatly increased this year/the past few years, so that might be a factor as well.

The best thing to do about this is check your TU Portal and/or call admissions.

My son applied in late September to 9 schools, all with rolling admissions.

Just before Christmas, he contacted the last 5 he’s waiting to hear from.

Several had never received his transcripts. One said it’s sometimes a problem between the Common App and Naviance.

I would absolutely contact any school that you feel might have not responded within the time frame they’ve set up. Your application may not be complete.

@fivethirtyfive what is the rush? If Temple turns out to be the best fit including the best scholarship why would you impose an artificial deadline for their response?

If the portal says the application is complete and awaiting a decision, you just need to be patient and trust that the university is doing its best to keep up with the increased amount of applications they have received this year. I applied in mid November and received my acceptance through the portal before Christmas. I also have a high GPA and ACT score; I am expecting to receive the Presidential Scholarship. I think if your daughter is losing interest in Temple purely because they haven’t accepted her as quickly as she would have liked, then Temple was never one of her top choices to begin with.

My son applied at around the same time and hasn’t heard either. I was assuming there was a big influx off apps near the 11/1 deadline and with the holidays, things are just moving slower. He also has the stats for admission and a good scholarship so I’m not worried. We haven’t visited yet either.

Feel free to email or call the admissions office. They are terribly swamped and this year applications are up almost 15%. They are responsive though if you reach out.

I agree with above post. Call honors as well. can’t hurt to do latter and maybe do mom explaining that kid is losing interest.

honors is used to parents contacting them… to put it mildy. Some of their type A students did not fall far from the apple tree, as the old cliché goes. They would know me better if my little darling had not said do not call them mom…

The student should own the process and interface with the college

It definitely seems quieter on this forum. This is the last school we are waiting for, with the exception of one that comes out in April.

funny you said that clarinetdad. my son more or less did so by only wanting to apply to 2 schools, Temple and pitt, despite mom getting wound up that he was limiting his options too much.

it worked out. however, if i had left housing and food to him as a high school student for his freshman year, he’d be living in a tent off campus his freshman year  He has grown up a lot since then! and once he turned 18, i backed off a lot because he was then legally responsible for his own decisions. Until then, i considered my husband, myself and our son, all responsible for his decisions although i allowed our son to be the quarterback in the college process.
