Has anyone else's D committed to Coastal?

D is looking for roommates and at this time, she is interested in rooming with someone involved in the theatre department.

She peruses the FB pages (Coastal Class of 2018 & Coastal BFA pages), but not many girls have committed; many are waiting for decisions from other schools. She wants to live in one of the living communities on the main campus and I'm afraid that if she waits too long, she will have to live in UP. Nice place, but she'd like to be a tad closer her freshmen year.

The Coastal CC page doesn't have a lot of activity so I thought I'd reach out here. Thanks for any help!

Our D has some girl friends who are freshman there this year. I can see if I can get some contact info for them if that would help. Or I also have a friend whose boys are freshman there this year. I could put you in touch with her and I’m sure she would be glad to answer questions for you too. I think they all absolutely love the school.

sydsim - can’t you commit to the dorm you want without having a roommate lined up? If your daughter wants a certain dorm, and it might not be available later, shouldn’t you book it now before it gets too late? When other girls commit later, can’t your daughter have one of them as a roommate when the other girls commit?

@BethsMom, yes you can commit without having a roommate, but if you have specific people that you want to room with, you include their names and email addresses when you request housing. The residence hall that she wants is a four person suite, so she’s looking for three others and she would like for one or two to be theatre kids as well (although if she can’t find any, of course she would live with anyone who would take her :)) )

She is aware of the pros and cons of being with the same people all day (and all night)!

@vvnstar, she’s not actually looking to question present students, just looking for potential roommates. Thanks though!

@sydism just thought current students may know of new students coming in :).

@vvnstar - Duh! I am so dense! I didn’t even think of that! See why I need so much help.

So, she actually made some progress and has two people already! Scouting out the last one now!

The admissions process went a lot easier than this!
:((

Fabulous @sydism! If you havent already, you might ask @AlexaMT. She may know others looking for a roommate or mates. Good luck!!

@vvnstar- Alexa has been extremely helpful already! She is a living doll!

I’m gonna contact your D on FB about this! :)

Coastal was one of our D favorite schools she considered. She loved the faculty and the students she met. @alexaMT is such a great ambassador for them. She will be missed when she graduates I’m sure. I’m sure your D will have an amazing college experience there and will get great training too. Best wishes to you both!

Aw, thanks @vvnstar! I have a wonderful protégé who will be taking over for me, but I’ll miss them just as much as they’ll miss me. But CCU will be in good hands, of course.

@alexaMT- although ultimately our D decided to go somewhere else, we have never forgotten how kind Coastal was to Her. She has some high school classmates there who are freshmen this year (twin boys). Their mom has raved all year about their experiences, including what a gem you are. You are making a positive dfference in the world! Wishing you all the best as you graduate!

Great choice! You won’t find a better acting professor than Monica Bell, and they just had Matthew Earnest in to direct Blood Wedding. I think Matthew is one of the nation’s strongest, up-and-coming directors.
Great school.

Matthew Earnest is awesome! I am very jealous of all of the students who got to work with him Blood Wedding.
