I have a problem with my reading Mathematics and Science. Usually I have to ask my teachers or friends to clarify. Or if I try to do it my way, a problem can take me as far as 2 hours. By no means it is a hard one according to me other friends.
I tend to overthink. Wrack my nerve over tests. One time I remember an easy test took me from 8 to 2 to finish whereas my friends had done long before. Because when I was younger whenever I tried to solve fast and most of the time I made mistake, I tried to do it slowly, track everything I did once or twice after Ive done it. But even when I solve slowly, I also have some fear in me that I will make mistake. Are my peers around me do things extremely fast or is it me who is slow?
I tend to have a lot of questions around lessons, but Im shy everytime I ask my teacher. My friends and teachers think that I ask trivial questions, but I dont think so since I really want to know the answer. But they dont help me much in testing because again I overthink and do them slowly.

This last question doesnt involve studying but sport. Man Im afraid playing against little kids! I play tennis, but tend to overthink and I tried to think positively, but it just doesnt work. I feel my heart beat faster, and a little fear feeling I dont know. But Ive lost a lot. Today a nine year old beat me. Last month a novice 12 year old who just pick up the racket beat me. I dont think its about technique but mental set. I dont know how to adjust it.

Help me is what I can say right now

Hey man, don’t be afraid! I always had trouble following my peers in class during classes. Like you I have a lot of anxiety over tests. My school was VERY VERY strict on timing. Every test that I had was given a time limit, so I always scrambled to finish on time (which resulted in so many silly mistakes on my part). If you calm down and stop worrying about the grade, you will find that you can do much better. Tests can be very tedious, no matter how well you understand the information, which is why tests are not always the best ways of analyzing how well you understand the material. This is the reasons why so many aspects are taken into account when determining a grade.

As for asking your teacher - stay after class and email him/her. It is their job to help students with their problems about tests, homework, classwork… etc. You need to start working with your teacher after class and after school. You may even see people who you did not realize were having trouble with the class, and it will definitely make you feel good to know that you are not alone.

I think that you need to stop worrying so much. Just disregard you losses and value your victories. Who cares if a brat can beat you. Who cares if your peers can do better than you. You only have one life - why spend it worrying! Get out there and do your best!

I have the same problem as you in that first whole paragraph in its entirety. That’s me too! Anyway, what I have tried to do is answer all of the questions I can without checking them. After I have answered all of the questions, I then go back to check my work. You have to realize that some people work at a different pace as you. I wouldn’t worry too much about being slow, as long as you are able to finish the test within the time period that you are allowed. As far as younger people beating you, I wouldn’t worry about it. Don’t be nervous about playing them, perhaps they have just been playing longer than you.
