Has anyone ever been given a full ride scholarship at NYU?

I know that they are notoriously stingy with aid, but it has to have happened at least once.

As far as I know - only for those going to NYUAD, but that opens up a huge can of worms. If you want more information about that, look up the NYU Abu Dhabi thread.

I know one person who was given a full ride and covered dorm expenses and granted a few grand in spending money, but he is ridiculously smart.

^Yeah most of the people who get a ton of money or full rides to NYU usually end up at Harvard or its equivalents.

I also know of one person who was given a full ride with a stipend but she ended up going to Princeton full ride.

I have. But it was through a special program that I applied to via JP Morgan Chase. It covers tuition and books. And you get a paid internship.
Housing is not covered though.

Yes, I’ve met a few. Well, one guy served in the military and so the Govt gave him some kind of scholarship. Another is in the Women in Science scholarship program and received a full scholarship + research stipend. But I’m also in this program and only received a partial scholarship, nowhere close to full - so it varies. Very few people at NYU get full scholarships!

I dont know anyone with a full ride but I am getting a 70% ride right now - I pretty much just pay for housing and a small amount of tuition. I was from out of state (from florida).

I have most of my tuition paid for by NYU, like 80%, but I have a lot of family and friends of sorts that work at NYU…we’ll leave it at that! :)

@SallyNYU, was it need or merit based? If it was merit, what were your stats like? If it was need, what was your situation like? If you don’t mind my asking.

Both, I guess. I got a large scholarship from the Silver School of Social Work (my major). My gpa was 3.93 and I had tons of EC. I wasent a stand out student by any means. I only got an 1100 on the SAT and ACT wasent much better. I also got a federal work study. Honestly, Im not sure why I got the scholarship over another student. My FAFSA did not show me as needy, but not as rich either (normal? lol). I think I just lucked out. I am fluent in sign language and know some spanish… maybe that helped? Now, im starting graduate school in the fall and I recieved a large scholarship to pay most of my tuition.

Being from NYC, I know many, many people who go to NYU and my answer would be no. I’m sure there are people who don’t have to pay out of pocket, but it isn’t because of NYU itself. They might have outside scholarships or because the army or something (the government) is paying for it. NYU is notoriously stingy with financial aid, and the environment of the school itself isn’t all that great anyway.

Lol you can’t just pretend something doesn’t exist when clearly it does. Yeah, NYU has crappy financial aid and full rides are rare, but they do provide them to some students for merit and need-based purposes. And yes, some of the scholarships are fully funded by NYU and not outside sources.

They do provide financial aid. I am not saying they don’t at all. The question of the OP was regarding a full ride.

@boots47 and Alix2012, I guess I kind of meant had anyone been given a lot of aid, not just full rides.

@SallyNYU, they probably gave you the scholarship because of the school you went into. I can’t be sure, but I’d bet money they didn’t get a lot of strong applicants like yourself to the social work program.

@boots47 - Didn’t you basically say NYU doesn’t grant full rides? I’m saying they do. I know a couple people on full rides here, including a good friend who is in my scholarship program, which grants both partial and full rides to students.

here’s a site for info on NYU scholarships, in case anyone here is applying or interested: [National Scholarship Competitions](<a href=“Global Student Awards”>Global Student Awards)

Great website for scholarships! Too bad Im not eligable for any (graduate student).

I got a full ride for tuition only and a friend of mine got a full ride for tuition and dorming.

I got an almost full tuition ride (about 90-95%). There are 2 kids in the NYU Class of 2018 group who said that they got a full ride

I have a full ride for tuition ($45,000 a year in scholarship and grants, no loans). I would have to pay for dorming and other expenses, but I live in the area already, so that’s not much of an issue.
