I was thinking of applying to Willamette as a safety, but its colors are red and gold. How.... mcdonalds....

I feel so superficial about it though! :D

So, has anyone else been turned off by a school's colors?

I think there was a tread a while back about what was the stupidest reason people applied/didn't apply to schools. Colors were the least of the stupid reasons... You should check it out for a good giggle.

Princeton's orange and black? Helloooo, Unless it's October 31, they're bad colors :P

^ ILB, try typing that emoticon with a small "p," and then sit back and watch the magic! :p

My college's colors are black and yellow... Not as bad as black and orange, but still pretty bleh. So, erm, no- but for some reason I think all of my colleges either had maroon/black/white as their colors or yellow/black. Kind of odd.

My school's colors are Cardinal and Gold. I like it, especially now that we're going back to the "traditional" cardinal color that we had pre-mid 90s. Since then we've had a bright red and yellow that was very McDonald's-ish but I'm excited about the new colors.

Red and gold isn't too bad...lots of schools have that color combo.

The ugliest I've seen is red and green....so very much like a Christmas tree! Not cool unless it's December.

I liked Williams' colors (purple and gold or something, and a purple cow as a mascot), but I was not very impressed with Swarthmore (red and grey, how gauche).

UCLA's baby blue is getting too dark (they call it "True Blue")...it's looking too much like Cal. UCLA needs to be more original. UCLA stole Cal's logo, mascot, colors and fight song. But I guess it's true what they say, "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

Well, wasn't UCLA once the offshoot of UCB? It used to be the southern branch. That has to do a lot with why they have similar mascots and colors. In fact, UCLA used to be, like, the Grizzlies or something, but they gave it up when they wanted to enter the Pacific something-or-other conference since that was some other school's mascot. They tried out a bunch of different mascots, then Cal let them have their Bruins mascot. It doesn't have a thing to do with UCLA being unoriginal. It's 'cos UCLA is like Cal's little brother.

munchkin: I found the link...

red and gold...those are the gryffindor colors!

and there's certainly no shame in that.

Not that I'm applying at my age and sorry to my fellow Texan friends but the UT color...that burnt orange hue is just nasty. I think of puked up baby food everytime I see it...sorry.

Wait...

You were turned off by Willamette's school colors, but not by the fact that their mascot is the BEARCAT?

I've never liked SDSU's colors = red and black.

Well, wasn't UCLA once the offshoot of UCB? It used to be the southern branch <<

Correct. I recall UCLA being referred to as the Southern Branch as recently as the 1970s. In fact I think all 10 of the UCs have some variation of blue and gold for their colors.

HAHAHAHA

"...but not by the fact that their mascot is the BEARCAT?"

orange and black is awesomely cool!

blue is getting awfully passe.

brown's brown & brown bear mascot really made me go "ugh". haha. love the school, hate the color.

When we looked at Tufts, I thought the baby blue and brown combination was awful but that combination has actually been in style for the last year or so... My daughter thought it was cute.

She finally decided on U Texas Austin. Thank heavens she doesn't mind burnt orange because I'll tell you, the school color is EVERYWHERE on that campus. If you find burnt orange unbearable, you really shouldn't apply there.

jk

Sorry Midwest Mom - I got on this thread planning to pan Tufts and UT-Austin for the two worst color schemes in the country, only to find that I'm panning your daughter's tastes! As long as she's not majoring in interior design, I guess it's OK. But baby blue and brown are just hard to take together. There are several brown schools, and none are very palatable - especially the brown and yellow of Wyoming. The best brown school is the brown, crimson and cream of . . . Brown.

The black and white of Bowdoin. It's not awful, just bland.
