Merit based ones?

Is Rice receptive to this kind of negotiating? I have offers from Emory and Vanderbilt for merit aid; is there any chance that Rice could match these?

No idea, but you might as well try since students who opt not to enroll will most likely be giving up merit aid to go to other universities (hence freed up merit money).

I think I might try to bargain a bit. Just very, veeeeeery politely.

Any luck, guys? I just left a message at the office and sent an email, but the auto reply said that it could take a week for them to consider a file review. I’d love to go to Rice, but alas, no money for me. Does anyone know the success rate of a file review? The financial aid site says it’s “very rare,” but I’ll cross my fingers.

We got a better financial package from Wash U and tried to get Rice to match their package. The financial aid office was very clear that unless our financial situation had changed (which it had not), they would not reconsider or match other offers. We still decided to attend Rice because it was a much better fit.
