The Hill School? Not much seems to be said about it. Anyone have any insight? Or comments about it? There is so much said about L'ville and The Hill is like their main rival, but theres barely any talk about it.

yup, I looked into it as my safety school. I like the formal atmos. but I think the town maybe ??? Most sports are good and I like that it
s kind of close to Philly. I don
t know if a lot of Mainline kids go there because their PS schools are already pretty good. I think the school brings in a good student body. Donald Tromp sent his sons there a few yrs. ago. Can
t be too bad? It
s worth a look. If you visit please post what you think.

I’ve been to Hill a few times. They always talk about the beautiful scenery and campus, but forget to mention the giant nuclear power plant next to the campus. I’m not kidding, it’s most visible from the athletic fields and it was just kind of unsettling, seeing the two giant towers spew smoke into the atmosphere. The formal atmosphere turned me off, honestly.

I checked it out a bit. It looks really formal. It reminds me of old-time boarding schools.

The Hill was one of the schools that my son expected to like a lot and then, about half way through the tour knew it wasn’t right for him. I have nothing negative to say about it really. Sorry I’m not much help here, but I made a deal with him that he didn’t have to give me a reason for not wanting to apply to any school we visited.

As for it being a “safety” school, be careful here. Even if my son would have applied to Hill, he probably would not have gotten in even though he would likely have been in the top of the applicant pool. He wouldn’t have gotten in because it wasn’t “right” for him and I think it was apparant after the interview (or at least that’s the impression I got from the lovely lady who interviewed him). ONLY apply to schools whose acceptance would spur a little “happy dance” on March 10th. I can’t stress that enough.

neato,
I know what you mean about safety schools. I am only considering schools that feel like home away from home. My mom drove me hundreds of miles for just drive byes of the schools I was most interested in. Some of the top schools on my list came off my list after a twirl through the campus. One of the schools that was low on my list went to the top after we hung around and watched a sports game and had lunch in a near by cafe.
I have a clear game plan of where I
d like to apply, keeping in mind, I have a list of reach, range and safety schools. Other important factors students should research before visiting a school are the course offerings. I
m more interested in advanced biology classes. So I
m picking schools that don
t require freshman physics.
I have to say cc has aided me in the research.

A lot of Main Line kids I know are going, and mostly from private schools. I visited, but I know it’s not for me. Pottstown is pretty sketchy though… It’s a great school, but the kids I know who are going aren’t necessarily very book smart, just extremely rich. Hill is great for a type of kid, just not me.

Pottstown is the weirdest place I’ve ever seen. It’s in that part of Pennsylvania where the state stops being so quaint and classical and starts getting kind of…hillbilly/redneck.

recently, ive heard about many drug issues at Hill that caused many kids to get kicked out

I believe it. There’s honestly not much else to do up there ;)

^^POTtstown. my friend wants to move there just b/c of the name lol :P

^ My dream is to live in ****ing, Austria. I’m not lying, that’s it’s real name.

If it’s a nuclear plant that is steam, not smoke.

^Either way, it’s really gross and creepy.

Hill is a terrific school, though like all schools, suited for some & not for others.

My D did not choose to attend Hill in the end (heading instead to New England), but we would have been delighted had she chosen it.

The Headmaster maintains a strong, traditional ethos that is coherent. The Dean likewise struck us a positive force. The Admissions team were professional, and the FA packages were generous.

Cheers
