Has anyone heard about any wait list movement?

So it comes by email? I am not sure if he has checked his email, so I will tell him to do so. Thanks…

PPV…no, the letter imples that everyone currently on the WL at Exeter will not receive this letter announcing that they are still on this list.

hyeonhoy, yes, we are still on the Deerfield WL. Who isn’t?

Any word from Hotchkiss? And I agree with Sarum. Those tuition invoices are jaw-dropping, eye-popping, breathtaking. Something about writing a check for well over 40k for something that was just one of the assumed benefits of living in a civilized society in the past. There will be those who will choke (or perhaps have a coronary event) when they see the invoice!

And it comes by email? I told him to check, not sure if he has as of yet, though.

We got an email from Andover last week indicating that they are over enrolled and will not be going to the wait list at this time. Did everyone on the wait list get that email? It wasn’t encouraging at all.

Chaidrinker, yeah, we got that wait list letter too.

what a bizarre year, who would have thought that the top schools would not go to the wait list. they must have been worried and over admitted.

Yes, and parents are so concerned about getting their child into college that the best prep schools had record numbers of applicants. ???

principal–Not to be offensive, but it comes off as kind of arrogant that you are commenting on the waitlist thread when you are holding spots at two different schools and slowing down the process. And rubbing it in people’s faces that you can easily afford two deposits and two spots.

Still holding two spots? Sorry but you must have forgot, it’s april 24. Either viola made her decision two weeks or she won’t be attending boarding school. There are worse things than commenting on a thread…

I don’t think it’s permitted to hold two spots past April 10th. Here’s a thread from the parents’ forum on the college side of CC on the subject: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/679131-paying-deposits-two-schools-buy-decision-making-time.html.

I presume that the practices are similar for prep school admissions. I can think of no reason why a prep school should tolerate this. Those spots could be filled today, if the schools aren’t overenrolled. If you do this, I think you risk losing both spots, because schools do talk after April 10th. Posting on CC about it is not advisable, because admissions people are rumored to read threads.

Thanks, Periwinkle, for introducing to this thread the standards and rules against double dipping by students admitted to colleges. While the arguments on the college side against this practice of double dipping seem reasonable and probably should apply to prep schools too, does anyone know the rules and standards, if any, followed by prep schools to this practice? If so, please provide a specific reference to such rules so that we may be able to read them, understand their application and discern the penalties, if any, for any violations of those rules. Thank you again.

Did I say a damn about being able to afford it? I barely even implied it. Istoleyournose, I am not sure if you read a thread titled “well…”. it explains most of what transpired, and what’s going to happen. I will send you a PM if you want.

so, back to MX? any info?

“I think you risk losing both spots, because schools do talk after April 10th.”

Periwinkle- you’re absolutely correct. I passed through a placement fair this week for the 2010 admits and it was well attended by all the major players. I ran into an admissions rep I know and he told me that night before, all the reps got together and ate at a well-regarded local restaurant. Many of these “competitors” know each other well from years in the business and some are actually good friends. BS is a very small world.

(so nice to pass through that fair knowing that all the pressure is off my family :))

It is ethically questionable for anyone to hold aspot that they know that they will not use. Decisions are to be made by April 10.

Make a decision and move on.

There are others waiting.

PV = I’ll bet that your schools don’t care that two deposits were put down. That’s what these Schools have waitlists for. And you have a good reason. They just wish you would choose them in the end.

There are serious anti trust laws in place for this. They cannot “discuss” you during the season.

PV, Until you have gotten your law degree, it sounds pretty ignorant for you to throw about loosely about 'serious antitrust laws for that." There’s nothing in the Sherman act that prevents school reps from having dinner together or even talking about students. Now, if they were conspiring to set tuition prices or FA packages uniformly . . .

I do not know too much about anti trust and all, but they cannot cross talk about candidates for application. Michael and Paul can’t go out to a diner one night and discuss a single applicant. I am sure they can go out together and talk about the process and the whole pool in general, but they cannot talk about a single person and what to do. It would become like an OPEC of academia.
