Just curious. Do you know anyone that was smart and well rounded but was not as extraordinary like some of you guys here?

sounds like me

If so, can I see the stats?

I'm not extraordinary when it comes to stats, for sure.
ACT: 31
SAT II's: 720, 640, and a really low one.
AP's: Took 3 junior year, taking two this year. The 3 from last year are: 5 (APUSH), 4 (Bio), and 3 (Eng. Lang).
I didn't participate in any of the national competitions, nor was I a National Merit Finalist/Semi.

I know someone like that.
It's happened.

-my sat1 were: cr660, m730, w720
-im asian
-i think the reason why i got in is that im not a, no offense, "stereotypical asian math/science grinder" and that was basically what I wrote my essay about
-i sing, play guitar, bass, and drums, and i write my own songs (sent my CD)
-i've also shown prowess, accomplishment and extreme interest in the classics (latin/greek)
-so as far as asians are concerned, i felt these two factors set me apart

did you guys fill an additional essay that is included in the supplement?

"Exceptional" is in the eye of the beholder. To channel Byerly's spirit, I must say this thread is rubbish since one cannot determine what is "exceptional" and what is not. This is also the case with the thread on how supposedly no science/math people were accepted since, you know, the OP's high school represents the overall applicant pool.

LOL xjayz has got a point! You never know... Einstein was a late-bloomer. ;)

Those of you who did get in, what do you think was most attractive to the admissions people? Like sauce said, he sent in his CD

once i'm back from break, i'm going to ask my GC why i got in... he usually knows, so i'll keep you posted. on a side note, i did not do the supplemental essay.

That's a funny line. Byerly seems to be taking a vacation from posting here, but, yes, what the admission office is looking for is not some secret sauce that all applicants can buy at the Harvard Prep store. I'm sure the great majority of applicants have mothers who think they are exceptional, and every year at every highly selective college there are amazing applicants who get accepted by one great college but not by another. It's best to fill out the application, submit it with the required materials, apply somewhere else too, and otherwise enjoy the last year of high school.
