Has anyone received President's volunteer Service Awards before?

Does all the service have to be done in the 12 month period? Jan to Jan? Sept to Sept? or any 12 months?

any experience, any info another than their website?

Is it very important for college admission?

Thanks in advance.

S received a President’s volunteer service award, based on his record of volunteering though all 4-years of HS (got a letter from the President probably signed by auto-sign machine, lapel button and a $5K scholarship). I don’t know if that’s the Service Award you’re mentioning. I don’t think the award itself had any particular weight on college admissions, although the service for which S rec’d the award was probably considered as a really good soft factor.

There may be more than one Presidents volunteer service award. Our s got what was called a gold award in his letter, but I dont think there is any rule about the consecutive months of volunteer service. The letter says that the president called upon people to do “2 years or 4,000 hrs of volunteer service over the course of their lifetime.” Sorry I dont have more specific info. Good luck!

** He didn’t get any scholarship money with that award :(

**** And he didnt get notified until Feb of his sr yr (he was awarded it with a Prudential Spirit of the Community Award) so too late for college applications.

You generally use a calendar year, you can contact them (thru the person authorized to certify your hours) and ask about using a different 12 month period.

I received one but my school had it’s own policy which made community service hours only eligible for 10 months of the year so I don’t really know how long you actually have.
