Has anyone self studied AP English Lang and APUSH?

<p>Hi, I'm new to AP testing. I was doing IB, but I moved school (actually moved to US) in my senior year so I'm starting AP.</p>

<p>I'm planning to self study AP Eng Lang and APUSH. Does anyone have experiences self studying these classes? What did you do?</p>

<p>Thank you for any suggestions :)</p>

<p>Hey, I don’t have personal experience with self prep as I was in APUSH and never took AP Lang, but a friend of mine studied on his own for the USH AP test and got a 5. Just get one or two test prep books (REA is a great one for that test), read through them, and do lots of practice questions. Best of luck!</p>

<p>For AP English Language just take practice quizzes and time yourself while you do it. I think the 2001 AP practice quiz is available online. Also take practice essays and time yourself.</p>

<p>Do I need to read and analyse novels beforehand to prep for AP Eng lang?
Thanks for the suggestions. I heard the Baron book for APUSH is good too.</p>

<p>anyone…? And which prep book is best?</p>

<p>Hello.
I’m sorry to tell you, but I’m not self-studying these two subjects. But, as a students who takes the class, I can tell you what’s expected.
AP US:
1- If you can get a hold of the Baily’s The American Pageant Text book, great! If not, go online and study the chapter outlines [The</a> American Pageant, 13th Edition Textbook Notes | Course-Notes.Org](<a href=“http://m.course-notes.org/US_History/Notes/The_American_Pageant_13th_Edition_Textbook_Notes]The”>http://m.course-notes.org/US_History/Notes/The_American_Pageant_13th_Edition_Textbook_Notes)
Then, after studying each chapter take a test. It’s located here: [Bailey</a> | American Pageant](<a href=“http://college.cengage.com/history/us/bailey/american_pageant/11e/students/ace/]Bailey”>Bailey | American Pageant)
Besides that, make sure you know all the individuals who are important to us history. Listen to me, I’ve seen and taken a real AP USH test from 2010 (my teacher provided it). They ask very very very very slesifiv questions. You have to know the year, the time period, who was the president during that time period, what was happening internationally during that time period, etc. I don’t wanna scare you, but, you better prepare hard. This test is even harder than an average US History college class. </p>

<p>AP ENG. LIT.:

  1. Read Read Read Read
  2. read books like Huckleberry Finn, christmas carol, the jungle, a farewell to arms, pride and prejudice, the awakening, etc. Classics rule the AP Test.
  3. Read poems and short stories (extremely important)
  4. prepare by buying ONE Barron’s or Kaplan or whatever book. Just ONE! And follow through it. from cover to cover.
  5. I know it sounds too much, but with a little motivation and a little hard work, I’m sure you’ll be fine.
…afterall…the great makers of history didnt wait for knowledge to come while they’re liesurley sitting on a montanta porch. They studied and studied hard. They did it all on their own and they didn’t even have 1/100th of the resources we have today. Dont waist your life waiting for knowledge, instead, chase it like a crazy dog ! It’s worth it in the end.
Oxford, Columbia, Harvard, and Yale belong to those who grasp knowledge and go after it. Don’t settle for community college, that will NOT make you Bill Gates Or Obama. These colleges create leaders and create the upper class of society.
…be an ivy…be a student who studies and learns…don’t be fooled by people telling you that all colleges are created equal. They’re not! </p>

<p>GOOD LUCK on self-studying and I hope to hear your name as the next Obama, bill gates, or the next Malcom X.
 Yazii.</p>
