Has anyone taken this IHUM----Transformations: High Art and Contemporary Culture?

I would really appreciate it if someone who has taken the course could provide a bit of perspective on the quality of lectures/TA/workload/final exam format. Thanks!

Hey Eiswein,

Have you heard of courserank? Essentially it’s an online program where there are student reviews on courses and professors at Stanford. I haven’t tried it out yet but I hope this will help you in your future endeavors! Someone who has taken the course should reply though! =] https://www.courserank.com/stanford/main

^Kisho, I know of the web but haven’t been able to find any reviews on this course on it :frowning: Thanks for the link anyway!

I found someone who says they “adored” the course in the question section. Obviously that’s just one opinion though. It seems like this IHUM hasn’t been offered in a while, hence the lack of reviews (Courserank is pretty recent).

So you’d obviously be taking a risk. With fall quarter IHUM your workload outside of class is probably going to be around 3-6 hours a week (slight increase when papers are due). A good way to maybe get an idea of workload is to look at the page lengths of some of the texts you will read. Although note that, especially for longer texts, you may only be assigned a portion of it.

If you already have a list of TFs, you can do a background search on Google. Note that it may be hard to get your desired TF though.

As far as quality of lectures, you can look up the professors other classes on Explore Courses, then ideally find reviews for those on Courserank. Someone in a review probably discusses the quality of the professor.

It was last offered my freshman year. I didn’t take it, and I only vaguely remember other people’s impressions of it. I think it was reasonably well-regarded, except that the final project was kind of weird. I don’t remember in what way, but it was the kind of thing that some people would love and others would hate.
