Has anyone transferred back to a UC or any university after academic dismissal?

I failed horribly during my first year at UCR due to my lack of care and motivation. I stopped attending my classes and slept my way through my freshmen year. Now I'm getting back on my feet and have been going to CC for two semesters so far. I had a 1.0 last year and a 3.8 right now. I'm aiming to transfer to UCLA, UCB or UCI but I don't know if I'm being too unrealistic with my unfavorable history..... I'm also switching majors from sociology to nutrition/biology because I gotta do what I love instead of selling myself short.. which is what I did when I hesitantly went to UCR though it didn't offer the program I was looking for but was the only school that offered me enough $ and was close to home..

I'm really curious if there's anyone who's faced or is facing a similar situation and if you succeeded in getting back in school.

1st) The UCs are all part of the same system so you should call and ask if your academic dismissal at UCR will affect your application to other UCs.

2nd) How many classes did you straight up fail at UCR? Your “transfer” GPA is your GPA at UCR + your GPA at CC. The UCs do allow you to repeat classes you failed (D or F). So the best thing you can do is retake those classes at a CC. E.g. You got a D in into to philosophy at UCR, you take the class at CC and get an A; when the UCs calculate your transferrable GPA, they will only use the grade received the 2nd time. It’s not a loop hole but you can use this forgiveness to massively boost your GPA.

3rd) Unless you have over a 3.0 GPA combined transfer gpa, I don’t think you have much chance of getting into any mid-tier or top-tier UC>

4th) You might want to look into asking for readmission at UCR. This will probably be easier than asking for admission to a different UC.

5th) UCs have transfer unit caps. 86.5 Semester Units at UCLA, 90 at UCB. You should try to raise your total units as close as possible to this number without going over. Basically your number 1 priority is to improve that overall GPA.
