According to the undergraduate business school rankings on Businessweek*, RBS has declined in ranking from #32 in 2007 to #73 in 2012. That's a pretty significant drop by most standards. I know that these rankings aren't exactly accurate or trustworthy, but this must signify something.

I'm in the process of making my college decision and RBS is an option. How much weight should I give these rankings? Has the business school really declined that much in reputation since 2007? For reference, I'm also considering UDel. In 2007, it wouldn't have even been a thought; I would've chosen Rutgers. But now... I'm not so sure.

I'd appreciate any helpful input. Thanks!

My daughter is in a similar situation. She has been accepted to University of Delaware, University of Maryland, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Fordham (still waiting on Syracuse and Villanova). We are in state for Rutgers so it would be the most reasonably priced by far. We too were concerned with the ranking and don’t know anyone that has graduated from the program. Any business school attendees/graduates out there that can offer any insite?

All these schools are fine choices. My son is currently attending RBS NB as a freshman and it was the reputation, location and value for us. Wall street Journal ranked Rutgers very highly on their job recruiters list. The RU Business school was ranked higher than Harvard. Even though the ranking was done in 2010( I could not find a more recent one, but I know there is one) it is still very impressive. You cannot look at only one ranking.

You are only looking at one source. Rutgers is an excellent school with many resources and at a perfect distance to NYC and the prestige of adding a medical school and joining the big 10 will be a huge plus.

I also forgot to mention, look at the starting salary for Rutgers VS Notre Dame (#1 according to the ranking)…they are the same!!!

What does your son think about the quality of education? Is he happy with his professors? Does he feel as though he made the right decision? Any regrets?

He has no regrets!! He is very happy with his choice. The classes are huge, the buses are sometimes a problem and your kid will not get the attention that is sometimes needed due to the large class size. Rutgers is not for everyone. My son was accepted to a much smaller schools, but he wanted a school that is close to home, big on sports, close to NYC and has a good reputation so size did not matter to him.

The classes are challenging like Eco, Calc, Stat , but he is choosing his professors very carefully. He had an Eco prof that was excellent and was a famous economist that wrote for papers and spoke at big universities and was also invited to the White House to meet with other economists to discuss our economy. He tells me that people drop the RBS because it is so competitive, I think the number is like 25%

Visit the school and visit many times. If possible, have your child stay overnight. My son visited twice and spent an overnight with my friend’s son and that confirmed his choice. Good luck!

flam316 have you made a decision yet?

Who was the econ proff your son had @mytwosons ?

I tried to defend Rutgers by using the table that you provided, but it’s hard. Lol. The only good thing the table says about Rutgers is that recruiters rank RBS graduates in surveys as #32. Hey, that’s better than Delaware (#73) ;)

Chiming in to say the rep of the Business School is just fine. Son is a junior who interviewed with all the Big 4 accounting firms (they all came to campus) and landed a summer internship with one of them.

Also as you take upper level classes they are not huge - I think the Accounting classes have 40 students.

The Business school (particularly the Accounting program) is both challenging and competitive - you will have to work hard to do well. It is very important to have a high GPA if you want to land a good job.
