Has this ever happened before?

I just wanted to ask if anybody has ever voluntarily repeated a year of school? If so, where was it allowed?
I have a very... interesting situation that I'm in and I would love to re-do my Junior year.

(Oh, and I'm new here :). You guys have a nice board, I'm happy I found it.)

It is rather common for boarding school students to repeat a year of high school.

Which boarding schools, or is it just all?

My friend did, but she had an extremely unique situation. Let’s just say there were family problems involved. She dropped out before the end of the first semester, and because of this, there will be nothing on her record stating that she ever even started the year. Next year, she’s coming back as a freshman again.

Well, my situation is a bit unique in that, I "move" around a lot... and its not due to the military.

My dream would be to repeat for the IB program. If I could find a laid back boarding school with generous financial aid, grants, and/or scholarship that gave the IB and would let me repeat, I would be in heaven. I'm just worried about being accepted since I've had a hard time in high school.
(Oh, and I haven't found that school.)

Why would you want to repeat a year? It sounds like a waste of time.

And boarding school students sometimes repeat freshman year, not junior year, in order to get 4 years at the school.

and you know this from what experience?

Me? Just look around on the prep school forum. I admit, though, that I have no experience with repeating junior year. However, common sense tells me it would seem to be a waste of time.

It has A LOT to do with my moving.

Each school has different base credit requirements. Every new school you go to makes you meet those requirements, even if that means you can't do a class central to your college plan. I'm moving again and I would really like to not waste my Senior year making up lost credits.

Anyho, I was entered a year early and I would really like to do the IB program, so I really don't have a problem with repeating.

Interesting comment......are you familiar with PG Year? Is that also a waste of time? Hmmmmmm

So you really want to go through another WHOLE year of high school just so you don't have to take some required courses? That sounds a little ridiculous. Talk to the counselers at the new school to see if they could waive some credits before you make any decisions. Really, even if you have to take a couple required classes, how bad could it be?

yep that's what i'm doing! i'm currently a junior at a public high school but i'm moving abroad after this year. because the new school i'm going to only offers the 2-year IB diploma in order to graduate, i have to "repeat" junior year to get the credits done. to me it sounded like a really bad thing at first but in the long run i think it will be best for my grades, ECs and the whole college thing in general.

My sister did it. And she's doing fine.
I tried to, when I applied to boarding schools this year. But unfortunately they thought I wasn't good enough :)

yeahcollege, is your school a boarding school?

Why do you insist on attacking me? All I'm saying is basically what Tennisgal said. Repeating junior year just to squeeze in a few extra classes doesn't seem to be, well, logical.

And no, I am not familiar with PG year.

At my school the PG year was an option for kids who had NOT gone to the school. It was a rather popular option, kids came from all over, public+private HS.....most liked their PG experience.
