D19 is having a hard time finalizing her schedule for next year. Once way to make it work out the way she was hoping is to take AP Psych online. I know people say it is one of the “easier” AP classes but I worry taking it online would be much harder. I’m not too worried about the exam - if she decides to major in psych (one of her possible choices) she would want to take Intro in college anyway, I am just worried about how she wold do in the actual class.
Thanks!
Mine did. It seemed like a good amount of work quantity-wise. (I saw her working on it often.) However, she said it wasn’t difficult. She got an A and said she felt pretty good about the AP exam. There’s a ton of vocab. She made flashcards, and there were 900+ terms.
My D, who is finishing up sophomore year, took it online. It was more work than I expected, perhaps because she only attended one online class weekly so had to do classwork on her own. It was also more science based than the many psych classes I remember from college, which were more behavior based.
Overall she liked the class but it did eat up a lot of time. Also, not the same kind of relationship and rapport with the teacher (who was very nice) that she usually enjoys with her teachers. But she did well in the class overall.
Honestly, if she can’t take the course in school, I’d advise that she just get a review book and self-study for the exam. It’s fairly easy material.
D18 took AP Psych online this year. She’s a procrastinator and would let the work pile up until deadlines approached then complete it in a one night frenzy of activity. Didn’t seem too difficult to me from watching her (D18 has an exceptional memory, so she could rely on that).
Note: I was all for her taking 1st and last periods online. HS starts at 8:25am here and it would have taken her 20+ minutes to drive to and from school at those times due to traffic (it was only a couple of miles, not to mention wrecks, etc.).
Thank you everyone.
@calmom They do offer the class in school but she is trying to create a better schedule for herself I think. She wants to take the actual class not just the exam because she wants the class/grade on her transcript. I always tell her not to stress too much about the tests, it would be nice to have for college credit (even though she wouldn’t even get it at all schools) but since they don’t go into your GPA I try to get her to relax about them. So far she has passed them all but who knows how they will help until she narrows down her college list.
@droppedit That is my concern - she is a big procrastinator! She took online French 3 this year (still not done…) and it was always a last minute push to finish everything although she always did and got an A. She says this will be different because it is a subject she is interested in - she hates French and would have stopped at French 2 if I let her.
