I had an interview with a professor in mid February and he told me he'd be making a decision in two weeks. Two months later I've yet to hear anything from him. I emailed him for status last month and he never replied. I emailed him on Monday, still no reply. Calling the graduate office secretary yields no answers since he is virtually automonomous with these decisions. My status STILL says pending and I haven't received any emails. At this point a reject would be great if I at least hear something. I have to send out my responses tomorrow for them to get to the schools by Monday.

This program is my top choice and unfortunately if I get admitted I will decline my other offer. But at this point it's not my fault. Geez!

Any chance you can get your other deadlines extended? I was able to have a deadline extended until the end of April while I wait to hear from my other top choice, but I applied to Masters programs, so it might work differently in PhD world. Just a thought...

What he said; if you ask admissions for an extension and explain your situation, they may be lenient.
I have yet to hear from many of my schools, fortunately my backup school that I did hear from doesn't have a set deadline(well I haven't recieved my stuff in the mail, just an e-mail but no deadline just a 'get back to us'). I was in the same position where I talked to a professor over the phone when they were making decisions that week. Unfortunately, no reply back since then and that was late February. Gonna email him tommorow, since my mail can sometimes disappear. Probably got waitlisted though.

Ok, a new question to this thread: I've gotten final decisions back from 3 of 5 of my schools. I've got til the 28th to reply to the school I'm interested in that I've been accepted to(UF master's MSE). But there are those 2 rogue schools that haven't made their decisions. For the one I'm supposing I got rejected or at most accepted into their master's program(PSU) since I'm not a strong candidate, in which case I'd just accept the UF(but I still haven't heard from PSU, what gives? I'll call em tommorow). But for the other, Drexel(PhD MSE) it seems that they are just behind in their decisions(I got a reply from one of the funding committee and I didn't get funding from them but could still possibly get funding from the other committee). If I got into Drexel, I'd probably go there since I'd get funding, but I've got a deadline for the school that is pretty damn good and is one of my top choices. Its waaayy past the April 15 usual deadlines of schools, I'll contact Drexel but do you think I should ask for an extension on the UF decision or when is the latest I should mail out that I accept?
