Have I reached my limit????????????????

I took endless SAT programs and have memorized over 2000 SAT words, and now, i have no problems with the completion sentences but I always fail at the reading comprehension. I always get 400's (480, 460, 470) on the test, and for math (570, 560, 590 (highest yet)), and writing (540, 560, 590 (highest)).

Point being: I could take SAT 10,000 times, but I NEED 1900... I keep on getting 1600, 1640, 1670. Is there a way to lvl it up to 1900 from now till June? I'm planning to take the June SAT. I'm a senior and I'm planning to study at an international college (prestigious international college and they need 1900 SAT. you could take it 1 billion times, but I need 1900).

No matter how many times i try, i keep on getting the same score...
What should i do?? For writing, i know the basic grammar rules and i know why the answers wrong IF i look at it the second time, but I go so fast cuz of agitation. For math, its either I know or I don't know so i deserve 590. For reading, i just suck at reading comp.
Please give me some useful information; it's really important. If you think i should quit SAT, please say why. If not, please tell me why and what i should do. Thank you.

Try the ACT.

Don’t just study by memorizing things. Take practice tests, then see why you were wrong. Seriously, it works. Especially for writing and critical reading.

I believe you’re studying the wrong way… I don’t think SAT has a limit… if you get used to the SAT “style” you’ll be on the right track… do you really correct each and ever mistake you get on every single test? getting those scores really mean you have a bunch of errors and that’s not a a problem that potentially is advantageous in the SAT case since all the problems happen to show up again on different SAT’s… People here on college confidential would help you if you post the questions you get wrong, meanwhile, you have to try to work them out yourself and after you get the idea of every question you have to answer them again and see if you really are able to answer those questions. study effectively… SAT isn’t really about memorizing, nor it is about taking SAT classes. SAT classes, in my opinion are useless. You have to figure out where you have problems… you have some time to practice.

You just need rigorous prep. It really seems like you are not improving even after you have done like 20 practice tests. But for me, every 10 practice tests, my reading score improves by up to 60 points. Work on your mistakes thoroughly, look closely at each and every mistake you make, plus the ones you’ve got right. What I understood is rushing through the test is the worst idea. You will just make more mistakes that way. June is really far away. I think you can get better than 1900 if only you work even harder. It’s completely possible. I just improved by 110 points in a month (from 1630 to 1740). I know it’s not a high score, but I’m improving. That’s the point.

It’s not the best advice for everyone, but you might consider a private tutor. Try to find someone who has experience with high performing students. Your post suggests that what’s holding you back isn’t so much lack of knowledge as it is the skills to deploy that knowledge in a very, very, very, very high stake environment.

Those skills are challenging for virtually everybody and improving them means changing behavior. Changing behavior is very hard to do on your own.

If the school takes the ACT that might be a good option, since it has less emotional weight attached to it.

There is no such thing as a “limit”, OP. But there is such a thing as effort.

I’ve said it before in the same kind of thread: Effort is inversely proportional to intelligence.

What this means is, the effort it takes an intelligent person to get 2000+ on the SAT for example, is by no means equal to the amount of effort needed for a less intelligent person to attain the same results. While this may seem discouraging, by all means it’s not. It means that anyone can achieve a high score, but it depends on the amount of effort you’re willing to put in. Determination, hard-work, and smart practice go a long way.

That’s really true.

I do sort of think there is an imaginary ceiling on everyone’s score. For some, that ceiling is 2400, for others it is more like 2100, but I don’t think for anyone it is 1700.

alright. thanks for the advice guys.

plus, i guess i have nothing to lose by taking the test again on June.
Thanks.

THERE IS NO LIMIT, IT IS ONLY IN YOUR HEAD :D:D no seriously, it is.

1st STEP: Take 2 days off, don’t think about SAT or do any kind of prep. June is far away
2nd: make a plan
3rd: practice, practice, practice>> do as many practice tests as you can, do at least one or two a week! But seriously, do them.

I am 100% sure that you will get 1990+ if you do this!

If you need any help with prep, send me PM. Good luck!
