P.S This is going to be great for International Students because they have a lot of information about that side, but if you just asking about general Univ questions totally fine. Things like what you would need to apply and the process and things like that would differ. So ask Questions!! Tell your friends!

mpm5236- they’re about the same…i live in richmond and its nice cause it has a dining hall. its close to the bus stop too. but spaulding/wilkesom is closer to blake center and the mailing. redjacket/richmond is close to the but stop and the food court. fargo/porter is closer to the school if you wanna walk. i don’t think there is anything special on that side

hello, i was just wondering what are the differences between an ellicott double, ellicott double w/ double, and ellicott double w/single? i tried looking on the housing site but couldnt find anything. thanks

anikuu- the double is a normal double room. double w/ single is a room that is connected in a way. so you go through the first door and there is an open space, and then there are 2 more doors that lead you to a single room and a double room. do you get what i mean? the open space is quite big (well at least than how i thought itd be) so you can make your living out of it or whatever… i think.

basketballgirl- i just wanted to say that i just got my housing assignment and i’ll be living in richmond and doing the undergraduate academy (the global one)… any thoughts? im VERY excited to be on ellicott (as i was super worried about having to live on south).

I just want to add here that I emailed the ubambassador@live.com address twice this week to ask questions regarding housing and orientation for our incoming freshman and am sorry to say neither question was answered as of this time. We’ve never had this happen with our older children’s colleges, with any email, for any reason. I hope this is not an omen of things to come.

whldch- first to let you know, only one email came on the 3rd. and sorry for the late notice but the people who work with the email account is out for the summer. you might want to try contacting regular admissions. Sorry

Thanks basketballgirl for the quick response. I actually did email admissions with similar questions and (I hate to say it publicly), got no response either. But - we did get an orientation packet just yesterday full of good info and with all the good advice on this site, feel like we’re well prepared.

I don’t know all the ins and outs of any computer system, but they may consider sending an autoreply message out from that email address directing new families where to turn to for support. It would leave a better impression!

We have recently run into a few graduates and families of students in UB who are finishing up their studies for the year, and I must say you do have a lot of well spoken, enthusiastic spokespersons for your school. Sounds like a great place.

whldch-- the admissions office has ALWAYS responded to every single one of my many emails… i am sure they would be pleased to help you…

as for housing, have you received any of the housing mailings? because every little detail described in the mailings… https://www.student-affairs.buffalo.edu/genemail?email=Residence this site is a link to email the UB Residence Halls & Apartments departments… and obviously you can always call them at (716) 645-2982 admissions deals with “admission” to the University. It is not that UB has poor communication and doesn’t want to ever contact you. you have to realize that it’s the largest school in new york and new england with a total enrollment of over 28,000 students.

No offense MPM- but being a large school does not excuse UB from answering calls or emails, in any department. Emails are so easy to answer. They have more kids and I’m pretty sure many more employees too.

As I wrote earlier, I left an email for a person in a letter from Honors College. called the number in the letter and was transferred to the person and left a voicemail on his voicemail with my name, number, etc. It has been 2 months by now. There are not that many in the Honors College and I’m sure not an abundance of calls he could not return.

Took almost 2 weeks to get someone to send out my package for the bookstore. Not processed after 11-12 days, many phone calls (they don’t answer the phone) and unanswered emails. Took a “upset” voicemail with my husbands work number to finally get a call. The apologetic manager or the store did overnight the package and was very nice, but it is ridiculous that they do not attend to things timely, and have such poor communication.

the kids that attend UB seem to love it, so I hope the staff , profs and administration are more concerned with the kids than shows.

i’ve had quite the opposite experience than most of you. anytime i have called the honors college, i’m transferred to a person immediately. also, anytime i have e-mailed somebody, they get back to me, some within five minutes after sending it. we’ve never had a question unanswered

MPM- Actually, responding to you is not putting down the school.

There is no excuse the person they ask you to contact for questions does not respond to his personal voicemail.

If messages are sent via email and voicemail in an order to the bookstore go unanswered that is not putting down the school.

Where do you get off telling me I am “not getting ahold of the right contacts”? As you write “it’s not ub’s fault it’s you fault.” (Your misspelling not mine.) Is there something you do not understand in my posts- I called the person who sent the Honors College letter and printed his phone number to call for questions. The bookstore has all the contact info on their website. This is not rocket science.

My son is unaware of all of this, so you are not in a position to tell me that I am not helping my son. There is nothing I do more than help him.

If you actually feel that it is a great excuse for you that UB is large so it is so difficult for them to return calls or emails, then good for you. I do not feel that is an acceptable excuse.

I am hopeful my son will get a great education at UB. He choose the school over many others as they have a great engineering dept for a great price. (I did get someone on the phone when I called the engineering dept.) I doubt I will have to make any contact with the school after we drop him in August. My son will not readily contact the school for questions now, but will be in a position to when he is attending.

Glad you are so happy with your choice to attend UB that you can not see any faults they may have. Hopefully you will never have any problems as that will burst your bubble - although, again you can blame the size of the school or anything else you wish.

crazed-i think what he was trying to say was that while you may be having some problems with UB, everyone else does not have these problems (myself included). i think he doesn’t want people to think UB is too big and nobody will contact you because they really do contact you…you are just obviously having bad luck. you seemed to make the generalization that UB was a bad school because of your experiences, while he didn’t feel this was correct for UB (you have to remember everyone else looking at these posts…a lot of people may read your post and then think oh well UB is horrible because they never contact you back, when in reality they do)

Not making a generalization that UB is a bad school based on lack of responses. Just annoyed and think it is bad business on their part. Many students decide not to apply to or attend many colleges based on bad communication by a school, poor tours or tour guides, nasty admissions office personnel. None of these are necessary a reflection of the overall student’s experience or education. This happens at numerous schools, if you read other threads on various CC posts.

Some others have posted similar experiences, others not. Guess it depends who you are calling.

As I’ve stated, UB is a good school. Good rep. Great program for my sons major. I think it will be a good fit for him. Like I said, the poor communication is a reflection of the university and not good business (and yes, higher education is a business.)

Stop taking every post so personally as if anyone with any negative information about UB were trashing the school. That’s not the case at all.
