What do you guys think?

Hey All,

So here's my situation, I just want to see what those of you with more experience with the USMA, and how they operate, think.

So, I'm an enlisted soldier, I'm applying for graduating class of 2015, and I finished my application around early February (6/7) with 3 nominations (Congressional, Presidential and Commander's Endorsement).

I hadn't heard anything from the Academy until the other day (last Tuesday) I gave my admissions representative a call.

She informed me that I've been qualified for direct admission to the academy, but was waiting on a spot to open up.

I guess this is good news, with a little bad news. What do you guys think:

-What are the chances of enough people declining, for a spot to open up for a soldier? (I'm guessing it's still pretty early, r day isnt until 2july)

-If a spot does open up, how will I be contacted? Basically, how long would it take?

-Should I tell my Admissions Rep that, worst case scenario, if everyone accepted admission, I would be more than happy to accept admission to the Prepatory school? Does it work like that, or would the not allow me to, being qualified for direct admission?

Anything at all will help calm my nerves. Thank you for your time guys,

Just a quick reminder, R-Day is June 27th this year :)

If a spot does open up, how will I be contacted? Basically, how long would it take?
My son was notified by telephone call (but he had been waiting on a DODMEB waiver). The appointment arrived the next day. BTW this didn’t happen until late in May! Hopefully you won’t have to wait that long.

-Should I tell my Admissions Rep that, worst case scenario, if everyone accepted admission, I would be more than happy to accept admission to the Prepatory school? Does it work like that, or would the not allow me to, being qualified for direct admission?
Yes, I would. There is no down side to this. If you are too qualified your admissions rep will tell you.

Nominations seem tighter this year but as a prior service candidate you are a highly valued candidate.

Good Luck!

Thank you guys for your responses, I do appreciate it.

June 27th, even better.

So i read on the website that the deadline for accepting appointment was May 1st. You said your son didn’t receive his BFE until late May right? So is there a later deadline for when the Waitlisted Candidates must decide or not?

I do think he had a little bit to turn all the forms in but in essence when he got the phone call he was asked if he still wanted to go to West Point. If he had said no or he wasn’t sure we had the impression that due to the time constraints of R day approaching quickly they were going to call the next candidate in line. I don’t think the admissions office would have mailed the appointment unless he verbally confirmed he was going to accept the appointment. Of course they gave him some time to get the paperwork details mailed in time for R day.
