Yet I got accepted and I will definitely enroll in.
does this mean I should withdraw other applications right now and stop any further applying?

Yes, if this is a serious post and you were accepted ED, you are bound to attend Northwestern and must withdraw any other applications you have submitted. (The only reason you would be released from your commitment to attend NU is if you were a financial aid applicant and the financial aid package you received wasn’t adequate.)

By when must all other apps be withdrawn?

Immediately, as in “right now.”

Are we allowed to wait to see our financial aid?

^^^ Yes, as I hinted in post#2, you are allowed to wait for the financial aid info. But for students who did not apply for financial aid and who were accepted ED, you must withdraw all other applications and not submit any new ones.

momof3, do you know if there is some specific deadline for us to withdraw all our other applications?

“If you are certain that Northwestern is where you want to enroll, we encourage you to apply under our Early Decision plan. As with all traditional Early Decision plans, you agree to withdraw all applications at other colleges and enroll at Northwestern if admitted… If you are admitted under Early Decision and apply for financial aid, you will be notified of your aid decision around the time of your acceptance, provided your family has filed the College Scholarship Service Financial Aid Profile (CSS Profile) by December 1. Students admitted under Early Decision may be released from the commitment to enroll at Northwestern only for demonstrated financial hardship.”

I don’t understand why there are questions about this. You need to withdraw all other applications now. This is what you agreed to when you, your parents and your guidance counselor signed the ED agreement. You can’t wait to see about other applications. It’s not ethical and, colleges do share this info. You could theoretically place your acceptance in jeopardy if you don’t follow the rules.

My son was accepted ED to Northwestern on Friday. He is in the midst of emailing other schools where he has applied in order to formally withdraw applications, and will be calling these other schools as well on Monday / Tuesday. This is something that I have impressed on him needs to be done now. This is not something to fool around with. This was a serious, binding commitment to attend NU and to withdraw other apps. You all knew that when you applied ED. You can’t wait and see if you would have gotten in other places, tempting as it may be.

pizza, did your son ask for FA at NU? if so,did u get your FA pkg yet? I heard above that an inadequate FA pkg is one way out of the ED agreement.

I only have one application that is still being processed. All my other schools have already responded. Do I only need to formally withdraw the one that’s still being reviewed, or do I have to specifically contact the other schools that accepted me (instead of just ignoring them forever) to formally say no?

Contact them and formally say no, if for no other reason than out of courtesy to them and other people who are applying to them.

As I said in a previous post - definitely let all your schools know that you have been accepted ED to another school and that you would like to withdraw your current application to their school. It is the right thing to do for so many reasons but if you need a selfish one - you never know what can happen. Yes, Northwestern is your top choice and you are all so happy right now but things change. I’m not wishing you any bad luck but you may be disappointed for any number of reasons and want to transfer or you may be looking at some of these schools for graduate work, etc. With computer records they know you exist forever, make it a positive mark on your record, it’s just not that hard to do!

Yeah, withdraw all apps immediately (once you’ve received your FA offer and decide you can live with it) so all other pending acceptances, if there are any, can be given to others. It’s just courtesy…do not wait. Your ED acceptance can also be revoked if you do.

We can wait until we get our official letter in the mail at least, correct?

lol i’m shocked at the number of questions on this subject…

Help!!! I didn’t do my CSS thing by December 1st!!! I screwed up real bad! What do I do? Northwestern is my first choice, but I don’t know the financial aid I will receive yet, and I applied to 2 other schools. Two questions!

I will email NU about the CSS profile and what to do, and I might call them if they don’t respond. Is that alright?

I will call about withdrawing as I am applying for financial aid and I would like to see the aid before I withdraw any other applications. Is that alright?

Is what I’m doing alright? What will the response be? Please help!

847-491-7400 This is the number of the office of Undergraduate Financial Aid. Do not waste time emailing them. Call them tomorrow morning first thing and speak with someone about this problem.

But I go to school though… so afternoon?

Just send an email now then call when you can but the office is closed after 5 I think. They’re pretty good about responding promptly. The auto-response says 2 days but I get a response within 1 day usually.
