They are open 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. CST. (Calculate based on which time zone you are in.) Call as early as you can. Do you have a guidance counselor who has helped you through the application process? If so, perhaps you could go to the guidance office first thing, tell them briefly what has happened, and ask if you can call right then from the office. Maybe they will give you a “pass” if you are late to class. This is pretty important.

I don’t disagree with brebeuff’s suggestion to send out an email tonight, but I think you might get a faster answer with a phone call tomorrow.

I can almost guarantee you will still receive aid even if you missed the deadline. I’m a current student and still received the same FA package even though I applied late (sometimes a few months late!) a couple of times. It doesn’t really make a difference to them since the money will always be there and they have an obligation to meet your need as an admitted ED student.

I hope FA packages come early this week, as after Friday it will be a couple of weeks before we’ll be able to review it and withdraw other applications. We have house sitters, but won’t have them opening our mail. Presumably schools understand that some folks leave town during the holidays.

The FA award will be online on Caesar this Friday, snail mail goes out the same day. The admission letter has info on setting up a NU Caesar account.

@iwishuluck12 – THANK YOU for that information!!

If the info is there on Friday DD won’t have time to withdraw all her other aps before we leave town, but I’ll bet that means most folks will at least have a full picture before traveling for the holidays, which will be a big relief.

I assume schools allow some leeway around the holidays in any case, and I’d think that as long as all aps are withdrawn before the first of the year that will be ok, true?

You can send an email withdrawing applications. Will she have access to the Internet while she is away? It really doesn’t take much time at all. Perhaps it can be done even before you leave for the holidays.

She leaves Friday right after school and won’t have access to internet while she’s away. She’s applied to 10 schools, but maybe she can get all the e-mail addresses together tonight and I can miss some work to send them out for her on Friday (assuming the FA info is posted early in the day), although we’d hoped the entire family could review the information and make sure we are good-to-go. I assume her package may include work and loans, so it is important that everyone fully understands it (this is all new to us) and is completely committed to making it all happen.

It’s that happily over-scheduled time of the year. Hope everyone has Happy Holidays!

MomCares,
I’m sure that given the travel circumstances, if she notifies the other schools right after the New Year, that would be acceptable. It is important for you and her to understand what is being offered. That being said, I hope that the FA award works out for the best and your D gets to attend NU. My current freshman son says that NU is best thing that’s ever happened to him. :)

As was mentioned above, if you were accepted please withdraw from other places you applied to. Specifically, my son was rejected from Maccormick ((slight) reach)) but still has big hopes for UIUC Engineering where he is also a ((slight) reach) and where he applied priority.

If you are an Illinois resident especially, and you applied to MAccormick, you probably also applied to UIUC ENG. And if you got into NU ENG, you probably would get into UIUC ENG, thus taking an ENG slot away from another at UIUC early candidate. UIUC early answers are 12-17, so please do this app withdrawal before then if you can.

So tis the season: you got the big purple prize, others who did not get in ED are devastated; give the others a scrap of mulligan, the alternative.

thanks, and congratulations to you on getting into NU, and Happy holidays.

Why do you keep asking what to do when all the responders have told you that you need to let all other schools that you have applied to know immediately, as in yesterday. NO YOU CANNOT WAIT except if your financial aid will create a hardship. And then you have to demonstrate that and its a huge hurdle.

After reading these posts, one wonders how you got in to NU since you are either dense or selfish.

Maybe I’m mistaken, but I think everyone here who has not yet withdrawn other applications is waiting for FA information. A $240,000 commitment is actually rather significant for some families.

Also, I am sure that every student who has been admitted has worked hard and richly deserves it.

I should add that all of DD’s other applications are to BFA programs that require an audition. She’s already been academically accepted to those schools, but since NU is her first choice she has not yet done auditions and so IS NOT tying up slots at other schools during these days while she waits for FA info.

Hope everyone waiting for FA sees good news on Friday!
