Have you ever faced this before?

Hello fellow Indian applicants. :)

Umm, Well... I.. uh, I just wanted to share some interview experiences. Actually they were bugging me [a lot?].

Okay. Recently, I had this Princeton interview with a Professor who did his Phd. from Princeton University and Bachelor from Delhi University. The interview went very good (although I wonder if Princeton interviews are that important, anyway.). As expected, he asked me if I had any questions in my mind. I already knew about his background so I just asked him up about the undergraduate pure-sciences scene, physics specifically, at Delhi University. (I'm basically a pure-science nerd and want to major in Physics.) To my surprise, his answer was actually positive.
He was like - "Delhi University is very good as far as pure sciences are concerned."

In November, I had this MIT interview. This guy did his Bachelor from Delhi University* and later continued his studies at MIT. Now, when I asked him up about the pure-sciences scene at Delhi University, he made some weird faces. De facto, he said, "The physics course at Delhi University is pathetic. It's horrible, and you should not even think about it. Just head up for US universities."

:-/

I mean come on, what the dash is this? Okay, I know about Delhi University's research status and [thank god] I have someone at home who can actually guide me about these things; but, is this what you get from EC's in general? Two contradicting views which can completely smash someone's future.

*these two interviewers did their undergraduate studies at the same damn Delhi University and graduated the same goddamn year.

I don't know what's wrong with Indian interviewers.

They had a difference of opinion. So?
I agree that it is astonishing that their views are diametrically opposite but how does it bother you? You are looking for US universities, right?

Only If that person decides to attend DU solely on the basis of an individual’s opinion.

Generalization.

Weird. Why is a difference in opinion of two people you don’t know bothering YOU so much?

I could list scores of both pros and cons in the same sentence. Being a delhiite you should know by now how the place works.

To the OP: Grow up!

OP: Have you been accepted to any college so far?

Wow! intimidating replies. I love you all. :D

Well, not exactly.

What? Oh wait. Uh, let’s consider this analogy: You plan to do an internship at a particular company because it matches with your profile and all; but, you’re not pretty sure about the real scenario of internships over there. Now, whose opinion will matter the most? The one who has already done his/her intern at that particular company or the one who predicts most of the things on the basis of recognition, fame, or whatever, and had never been at that company before.

The interviewers fall into the first category and they are the ones who had been through my intended major. This point of time can be crucial for decision making and for anyone. I remember when my elder sister was literally confused between two options and ended up in Bio-Tech dept. at IIT. Result? Bad. Realization? Should have taken the integrated course of Delhi University. Mistake she committed? Didn’t talk to any student and/or professor of Bio-Tech dept. before accepting the offer and considered majority’s view superior.

Yeah. Sort of. Based on the numbers, again.

My logical ability, damn it, is weak. Are you asking it in general?

@dibbasatya

Okay. I’ll try my best. Thank you. :)

@perfectpixie

I’m afraid. :frowning: I thought they would be really glad to help me out with that point. They did not seem to be enthusiastic about this question, probably 'cause they knew I am already on a safer side.

And the reason for my concern is that I don’t want anyone to get into a ridiculous situation. It’s a question of your career.
Anyway, thank you for your replies. You guys are just awesome.

Yes we are. Thanks :D

Haha.

Its just a matter of personal opinion. I know of people who LOVED their time at IIT and those who absolutely loathed IIT… And they were equally good students or whatever. Like I said in an earlier post in the morning, its all about relativity.

Umm, I really didn’t get the sarcasm here. How do one ask ‘in general’ if you’ve been accepted anywhere?

^Seconded. So, two interviewers differed in their thoughts. And you stretched it to - ** I don’t know what’s wrong with Indian interviewers. **

Seriously, where are you taking this? They disagreed with each other and suddenly careers are at stake?

Or “fit”. I hope you get what I’m trying to say.

Oh yes, I get it. And that’s what EC’s are for.

No sarcasm there. I just wanted to know the point of that question. I mean how’s that related to the topic. :)

As I said, based on numbers. I mean, many seniors and friends of mine have had some sort of weird experiences.

I have already made a point on this.

The purpose of this thread, as stated in the heading, is - “Have you ever faced this before?”

There is no point to the question that compscifan asked. He was asking it out of curiosity - it’s an occupational hazard with CC members.
