@caro1inemckenna I’m in southern Maine too! What town do you live in?
Do a lot of people get waitlisted?
@Butterfly1998 See Post #128.
Yes. Last year, according to the common data set, they waitlisted 1,152 students, 483 chose to remain on the wait list and 37 were admitted. Section C2.

So the chances are close to none, especially since I need financial aid.
Anyway, thanks for the help!
Did anyone get any letter during the last few days? I just want to know how far the letter have travelled. I live in Nebraska and there have been nothing in the mail…
Thank you!
@TT2018 It’s now been over a week since letters were mailed, and I believe earlier posts mentioned that folks on the west coast had received decisions. You should call Admissions on Monday and explain that you have received nothing.
@dscottvb Thank you! Sad:(…
@TT2018 Haverford mails decisions either way so unless your application was incomplete you should have received a letter or packet. Perhaps yours was lost in transit so call them and find out the decision. May still be good news…
Thank you! I called them today and the office lady said they would email me my decision. But based on the acceptance rate and my stats, Haverford is not very possible for me…I will just have to wait and see.
Hi! I’m wondering if any Haverford waitlisted folks have gotten a final decision, yet. Any news or info on when Haverford lets waitlisted applicants know?
@PhysicsBoyMom … This is the email my Son got from Haverford on 7 May 2018. Not sure if this was sent to all students on the wait-list or only to those who had no chance to get in.
I am sorry to tell you that at this point in time we have filled the class for the upcoming year, and so unfortunately we will not be able to offer you admission from the waiting list.
I appreciate enormously your patience with this process and your extended interest in Haverford, and thank you for your willingness to wait for the possibility of an opportunity to attend. We are definitely honored by your interest in Haverford, and I am sorry we were not able to offer you a place here as I know you will have a wonderful impact on the college community you will be joining.
I wish you every success in your future plans, and all the best for a wonderful summer.
Sincerely,
Jess Lord
Vice President & Dean of Admission and Financial Aid
My child received a similar email to the one above. It’s not clear if they pulled anyone from the waitlist or not - I wonder if they did.
My child was offered an “extended waitlist” position in case someone withdraws over the summer, i.e if someone at Haverford is waitlisted elsewhere and gets in to the other school and then pulls out or if someone changes their mind and can’t come. We are accepting the extended waitlist position even though we know it is probably meaningless, but just in case… In the meantime we are making plans for the school where we put a deposit - it’s a huge school and not as personal as Haverford, but it’s what we have available to us. It’s too bad as Haverford was our child’s #1 choice and our # choice for him/her. Oh well. Time to move on I guess.
In hindsight, I wish we had done early decision. I’m sure my child would have gotten in. However, we were advised to NOT do early decision at any school unless we were 100% sure, and at the time of the ED application, our child was still reflecting on and thinking about the various colleges where he/she was applying. So we did the right thing at the time.
My advice for anyone in the future - if you are applying to a very selective college/university, consider doing an early decision application to your top choice (if you can identify a top choice early enough in the process).
