I couldn’t find a thread so I’m starting one. Anyone know when decisions will be released and whether it will be via snail mail or email? Looks like it was snail mail last year. Good luck everyone!
I got an email saying they were going to try to mail the 21st
from a haverford email: “We will send out decisions by mail at the end of March (right now we are targeting March 21!) We do not deliver decisions electronically; communicating with you in this more formal way is meant as a sign of respect for the incredible effort you’ve put into this process, and may allow you to receive and process your decision individually and privately.” so to answer ur question, snail mail, march 21 hopefully
hi i applied so excited
is a rejection from swat an indicator of a rejection from haverford?
There are applicants every year who get into one while getting rejected by the other. Two different schools, two different admissions committees. That said, if one was a stretch school for you, the other likely is as well. Best of luck.
I’d argue a bit differently. While the two schools are quite similar in many regards, Swarthmore does have a significantly lower acceptance rate to Haverford (~12% vs. ~21%), so I’d argue a rejection from Haverford means you’re very likely to be rejected from Swat, but a rejection from Swat doesn’t necessarily guarantee a rejection from Haverford (granted, Swat releases their decisions before Haverford). Both are very highly selective schools, but that said, I think you could have one being a high reach and one just a reach or one could be a reach and the other could be a match (that being Swat is the more selective one of the two).
Anyway, good luck to all! While I don’t think I’ll end up going to Haverford if admitted, I’m excited to hear back from them! Although, I am slightly worried about where they send my admissions results given that I have two mailing addresses in addition to my permanent address.
Swarthmore has almost twice the number of applicants as does Haverford – as a BiCo community alum I think there is a fair amount of self-selection among applicants to Haverford, given the smaller size and the emphasis on Quaker traditions and community.
Swat and Hford are very different places, and fit at Haverford matters enormously, with its Honor Code and tradition of self-governance. To me, all of that mean that a decision at one predicts very little about a decision at the other.
Definitely snail mail, but they always write a very personal note to the students, which is very impressive.
As @Midwestmomofboys suggests, I also feel that the admission result at one isn’t a proxy for the other (Swat & Haverford. We have a child at both, and they each have friends who were rejected at the other. It’s not a big topic of discussion, but we’ve hosted 2 Swatties for Thanksgiving who were rejected by Haverford.
I also feel that some of Haverfords higher acceptance rate is students who self-select away from the honor code (fewer “why not just apply” apps).
@megan12 even for rejections? wow!
@o2bdownsouth @IntellectualCat @Midwestmomofboys @EyeVeee thank you all so much, i guess all i can do at this point is wait and see
My understanding is that decisions for all ED1, all ED2, and RD for applicants living outside the US are disseminated via email. Decisions for US citizens living in the US are sent via regular mail; not sure how they handle international students living in the US. I’ve only heard of handwritten notes on RD acceptance letters. Applicants accepted ED typically receive a nice note from the Dean of Admissions after they submit their acceptance paperwork. Best of luck to all.
@taxicab1729 I’m not sure about rejections. I was speaking about acceptances.
If you only listed rejections on the portal, wouldn’t everyone know their status once the portal opened?
The only way that would work is if you posted rejections a week or so after acceptance letters were mailed…which seems a bit deceptive for Quakers. I would guess that they either mail or post all of the decisions at the same time.
Post #2 states that out of respect for your effort they send you a letter. Time to migrate the thread toward a big envelope / small envelope discussion…
Based on last year’s thread, it sounds like it is big v small envelope. Just like the old days! They’re hoping to send on the 21st, but based on things slipping with a lot of schools this year, I wouldn’t be surprised if it went out late.
Haverford closed today due to weather; it appears there will be a delay in release of admission decisions.
I don’t think they will get them out today. The school is closed I believe due to inclement weather.
The torture continues!
Haverford posted on their twitter that admission decisions will be mailed out thursday btw
