My daughter is really having trouble with this. She wants to take Italian 101, she has never taken an Italian course nor is it spoken at home.... Basically she is as beginner as you can be. The course enrollment system made her take a placement test anyhow, and apparently she guesses well because it placed her in ITA 102! She has talked to the dept and emailed them, they keep telling her that they have "fixed" the problem and to try registering again.... But the system still will not let her enroll in 101. She can't submit her course selections until this is fixed. Should she just go ahead and submit it as is (with 102 selected) and then work on getting moved to 101, or is that risky?

risky if there are sections that she may want…have her call again…

I guess SU changed the way they do freshman registration…in the past, kids submitted their course requests and the schedule was “given” to them…

The way it works is that she had to pick her top 3 choices for her 3 electives (the other 2 courses are required and she will automatically be placed in them). So she entered ITA 101 as her first choice in the first course slot, and that is when she gets the error saying that she is not eligible for that course based on her placement test score. She can’t hit the submit button for any of her course choices until that error is dealt with. Ugh.

Hi,
I’m currently a junior at Cuse and during the first two weeks of school in August, all students have the chance to add/drop/switch classes. So the classes your daughter picks now are not 100% set in stone and she can talk to her advisor to switch into 101 once she gets to school.

Thank you! She went ahead and submitted her choices today. I will tell her what you said about switching once she gets there in August.
