<p>One of my acquaintances, let's just call him Bob, asked me where I was applying. I said, "Princeton." he said, "What's that?" and I said, "what?" then he said, "Is that better than Notre Dame?" Then I fainted. Fin.</p>
<p>Are you sure you weren't having a nightmare? Or weren't in the "Twilight Zone"? Or that "Bob" isn't from Uranus? Hmmm...yeah, that is odd. Very odd. I definitely lol'ed at the last part. Hahaha!</p>

<p>Wow! What are the chances of that happening? How can you not know Princeton?</p>
<p>I've had that happen to me many times. It's really disconcerting. The 3 main reactions I get when I announce I'm applying to Princeton are:</p>
<p>a) "Why--I didn't know you were a snob!" (said in a lighthearted, joking manner, but still annoying)</p>
<p>b) "Oh, that's a good school, right? Where is it again?"</p>
<p>c) "Why not Harvard?"</p>
<p>I also find it necessary at times to bring up Harvard and Yale to explain to people where Princeton stands. It's frustrating, but oh well. Princeton is cool nonetheless, and I'm sure most people aren't so ignorant.</p>
<p>Today someone siad, "Oh...'Princeton'? That's an east coast one, isn't it?"</p>
<p>Haha, phantom. I get that, too. I also get, "Princeton? Well, you'd better get used to that Connecticut weather..." at which point I must politely explain that Princeton's in New Jersey. Yale's the one that's in CT. At this moment the person says, "Oh, that's cool. Did you apply there, too?"</p>
<p>Funny stories like these make me laugh on days like this. Good times.</p>
<p>lol. good thing i never get that in my ivy-crazed new york school. But I do hate it when they say "why not harvard?" because princeton owns harvard, that's why! hmph!</p>

<p>a lotta people dunno princeton. it doesnt have that international prestige that harvard and yale does. only well-educated people know what princeton is. the average person off the street i dont think would know what princeton is. most people at my school are like oh thats nice. is it better than ASU? yea....haha</p>

<p>same here... people don't know Princeton at all (with some exceptions). But then again I live in Greece I should be happy that they know Harvard to tell them where Princeton stands :P</p>
<p>Actually, a lot of people I'd consider to be "average joes" know what Princeton is when I tell them where I'm looking at. But sometimes just random people just can't quite put the right school in the right place, haha.</p>
<p>And randomgr, that's awesome that you live in Greece! One of my goals last summer was to start learning either classical or modern Greek, but I think I'll wait until college. Greece is awesome, from what I've heard my grandmother, who went there, say.</p>

<p>'zactly what I was thinking! That's also one of the reasons why I haven't expressed any real interest in Latin yet. Oh, and learn clarinet. If you can learn how to play it well (unlike the multitude of squeaky-clean (and I do mean squeaky) clarinets at my school), it's one of the most beautiful sounding instruments. Second to the French horn, of course ;)</p>

<p>Ancient Greek is the hardest language ever, I have been taking it for 3 years, and its so hard, I hope you know latin, i dont think i would be able to understand Greek without having learned Latin before.</p>
