DD just received a 16k over 4 years engineering scholly in addition to the full OOS tuition she received last week. This may actually be doable! I was interested but hesitent to attend the Honor's Day on Apr.3, however it is actually during DD's spring break and flights are dirt cheap. Now, we're definately going.

Congrats to your daughter!

congrats! maybe she'll be in some of my classes next year

Congrats! And the great thing about the engineering scholarship is that it will cover some of the other expenses that the full tuition scholarship didn't (room/board) and if your child receives other scholarships, you can use it to pay off what's left.

You do know the full tuition scholarship covers all increases in tuition for the next four years. It was one of the deciding factors in my child choosing Pitt over his other scholarship offers.

By the way, the Freshmen Conference will be on April 4 at Benedum Hall, you might want to sit in on some of the papers being presented. It is a requirement for all freshmen engineers to present at this conference. There is a listing of all the topics and times on the engineering department site.

Thanks MT Nest thats great information. s and I are flying in that weekend: For the April 3 honors presentation and then the chancellors interview on the 4th....we fly out that afternoon, so hopefully we will be able to sit through the Freshmen Conference for a while. What else should we make sure we do that weekend?

Land Shark: Congrats! Son received that scholarship too along with the full tuition. Sure makes it tantalizing to consider Pitt doesn't? What other schools is your daughter considering?

Yes, it does make Pitt inviting. She's also got full tuition at UAlabama and Florida Bright Futures at UF (assuming she gets in). She's also applied to Rice, Yale, Georgia Tech and WashU in St. Louis.

I wish I knew about the Freshman conference before I booked our flights. We fly out at noon on the 4th.

DD had no interest in Pitt prior to now. Now that it is financially doable, she is starting to get excited about our visit and the possibilities. (She really wants to go out of state.)

Congratz! I got the same scholarship package as your DD =] I'm not sure if I'll be attending, but if the other colleges I applied to don't give me any fin aid, I may be forced to.

Forced to, Lipitch? Wow, how arrogant! With this economy, you should be thankful you got what you did! Hopefully, though, you'll get accepted elsewhere and you won't have such a dilemma.

Engr scholarship. I am curious how the 16K breaks down? I know the Swanson engr scholarship is 1 grand/semester *8 semesters= 8 grand. 16-8=8 grand from what?

It is 4,000 per year for a total of 16,000 for four years. It is the same engineering scholarship my son received with his full tuition scholarship. And it stacks, so we apply it to his room/board.

It is 2,000 per semester.

Lol wut, it was def. 1 grand/semester when I applied in '06. Guess they bumped it up eh. 16K makes sense now.
