The HE Office isn't telling us much about course enrollment. I'm confused with what I've read so far and conflicting statements. It says on the website that the "College of Human Ecology manages your pre-enrollment by requesting courses for you. You may make changes during the add/drop period beginning on August 26." But I've heard that I can drop a course I was pre-enrolled in, starting July 14, and I can possibly add a class as well. So is waiting until add/drop just a suggestion since you'll have met with your advisors by then? Can I technically adjust my schedule starting July 14?

i have the same question – i can’t seem to get one real, clear answer anywhere!

I’m in engineering but the add/drop system should be the same. I’m assuming you’re both freshies. Welcome to Cornell and its admin system lol.

Normally, the schedule/course roster on studentcenter will be completely empty (like mine was). You can then use search functions and whatnot to select courses, add to shopping cart and then officially enroll.

First of all, check your emails/letters to see if you’ve been officially allotted an online pre enroll. (If you can log into studentcenter right now, it should tell you when your next open add/drop period is somewhere.) If you have, it sounds like when you first log on to studentcenter, there will already be courses selected for you. However, during any open add/drop period, you can drop/add courses as much as you’d like and as long as classes remain open.

Use Schedulizer.com to help you figure out a schedule you’d like if you have some other plan that deviates from the standard path. before the 14th. It’ll help you sort out conlicts before the add/drop begins.

Keep in mind you probably have to do FWS and PE sometime. The most basic freshman semester is 3 courses (3+credits each), one FWS and PE, just so you know. Most students find that adding another course suits them fine. Credit limit is 23 although you can petition for more. Don’t even try to do that your first semester unless you want a reason to hate college.

On top of that, make sure you check any HE requirements for freshman year. It would suck to make a schedule you like and then realize you didn’t meet the requirements for your major and have to switch/do extra time somewhere.

If you HAVEN’T been allotted an open add/drop period, then I’m assuming the preselected courses will be set for you, and you can only change it starting the 26th of Aug.

My D was a freshman in HumEc last year. They pre-enrolled her in Chem, Bio and a NS class. Those were classes she had to take so that was fine. During her enrollment period, she added a math class and PE so you should be able to do the same. I don’t know if you can swap the classes they pre-enrolled you in or not, but suspect you can try and if the system lets you do it then great.
