Heading to Campus Day. Any suggestions appreciated.

@klbmom18 I know! And it’s famous!

Plus it’s in Kerry town and if they are there while they have their farmers market, that’s kinda fun. I would also just drive by the stadium. No sense to walk or go when teams are not playing. But…there might be spring practices or games if they really need to check out a huge stadium. I don’t think they will be bored… Ha…

If you like Middle Eastern food, my son really likes Jerusalem Garden.

If someone didn’t mention the Arboretum, it’s beautiful and a great quiet place to go with great open spaces.

This just made me really hungry… Lol

I think Living61 may have gone to the Zingerman Bakehouse or Roadhouse instead of Deli. That’s why I asked which Zingerman he went to. It is not that far from campus as some students walk there for lunch.

@Living61 - I didn’t particularly love Zingerman’s either when we lived there, but I know we are in the minority. And we did go to the Deli. I’m just not that much of a sandwich person. But if we had company from out of town we might go there and it was always a hit for them.

Thanks for the great link, @Knowsstuff…all those places look so good.

@brantly, Bearclaw Coffee looks really good.

We’ll be there next Wednesday afternoon 28th thru Saturday morning. We’re taking a redeye flight leaving Los Angeles airport at 1am Wednesday morning getting to Detroit at 11:30am.

So now I need to figure out the places to eat lunch or a snack, and dinner Wednesday thru Friday (Friday lunch at Campus Day). We’re staying at a hotel that serves “free” buffet breakfast.

@KES2022 in my link I sent you is Angelo’s for breakfast and or lunch and their great cinnamon toast French toast. Just look at the suggestions and walk around. You will not be without options. Anything you could possibly want to eat is there in Ann Arbor and any type of ethnic food etc. Too bad you will not be around Saturday night for the basket game. Then you would see how crazy Michigan can be on a game day… Lol. Enjoy your stay and report back or reply if you have any questions during your stay. On Michigans website they have similar suggestions also. But keep in mind. You most likely will be on a food plan and look on the website where all those dining halls, cafés etc are located. Food is plentiful for Michigan Students. Also see where you can use the Blue Bucks at while a student. It’s all on their dining site etc

The same thing for Angelo’s as Zingerman, be there early for lunch or the line can get long. I went there many times and gave up most of the time when I saw the line.

Weird… but savas had a great iced mocha or something like that and sometimes I go back just for it

We we will be there Thurs and Friday (campus day on Friday, too).

if you like bubble tea I 10000000000000% recommend Bubble Island, best bubble tea I’ve ever had

Some of my D’s favorite coffee places are Comet Coffee (in Nickels Arcade just off Central campus), Literati Coffee (in Literati Bookstore, which she also loves), and Songbird Cafe.

Things going on while you are there:
https://events.umich.edu/week

Walk through Nickels Arcade.

Spin the cube. There is a new one on North Campus too!

Take your picture on the steps of the Michigan Union - it’s closing for renovations soon and you may have to wait awhile for another picture-perfect opportunity.

Listen for the bells to play at the Bell Tower.

Urban Outfitters. Cottage Inn Pizza. M Den. Zingermans.

Pay attention to the blue buses. You’ll be using them A LOT.

Natural History Museum closed 12/31 because they are moving to their new location (won’t be open for your visit) - but the art museum is awesome.

Make a point to walk/drive/bus through the North Campus Diag (Gerstaker Grove) since a lot of freshmen are housed there. The union on North is called Peirpont Commons.

Have fun and feel the love - Welcome to the family!
Go Blue!

Thank you, @098123Student.

@KES2022 Too bad you can’t stay one more night…the town will be electric Saturday for the NCAA Final Four March Madness game.Travel safe.

@098123Student, Thank you.

I sure wish we could be there to experience that one, but there’s just no way to swing it due to timing. :frowning:

I will be rooting for them all the way thru the championship game.

Some Notes:

  1. The Stadium is NOT on the tour. It is actually very hard to get inside.
  2. The U of M National History Museum is CLOSED as it is moving. The art museum is awesome though.
  3. Zingerman’s is very close to campus, just a couple of blocks, worth it so see how the city is integrated with the University. Perhaps the commenter above went to “Zingerman’s Roadhouse” which is a couple of miles west near a strip mall?
  4. North Campus is separate. Makes sure you get a tour there if you planning on taking a CS Degree.
  5. If the weather is OK, the ARB is worth trip to… it is near the Hill Dorms and the Hospital. It is a huge park with a river that goes through it.
  6. I would recommend MDEN over Meijer’s. It has dozens of $10 T-Shirts on the second floor that I have worn for years. No point is going cheaper than that.
  7. I would also check out the school of information. You might have to set up an appointment to get there. It is a reasonable “career shift” degree for kids who start off in CS.
  8. The Ross School of business is really nice. Probably the nicest new buildings on the main campus. It is NOT on the main tour.
