Can anyone confirm what the actual due date for FSU's health insurance is?

I see on my student account that fall semester's insurance due date is listed as August 30 2013 and spring semester's due date is listed as January 10 2014.

However, as far as I can tell, there is no penalty for letting the August 30 due date pass. The only consequence is a registration hold for spring semester. So, in effect, the due date for fall semester insurance is actually January 10 2014.

Have I got this correct? I'd rather hold off on paying until January 10 if possible.

Except that registration for Spring opens in October, and you wouldn’t be able to register without paying your health insurance.

It’s my understanding that all university-related charges for this semester are supposed to be due today (September 6). Whether health insurance falls into the category or not, I’m not sure (I have my own insurance) but I wouldn’t be surprised if it did.

August 30 was the day that financial aid was applied to all accounts, so I’m sure that’s why the due date is that day. It would make some sense at least.

Also, just keep in mind that technically, if you don’t pay for insurance, FSU could say you were in violation of the policy that says that you have to have health insurance and could in theory make you pay whatever you owe at any time if they wanted. Depending on what FSU wanted to do there’s a lot of different scenarios that could play out.
