Gailbeth,
Did you call yourself and asked what her recalculated GPA was and they told you? I wonder if I should call to find out. My daughter’s HS counselor is not being very helpful.

I called this woman in adm who I dealt with. It’s worth trying

Gailbeth, I just called and they said they can’t give me my recalculated GPA

I have been watching the posts over the last few weeks and it seems like UCF is inconsistent with the denial and deferral process. Like all of you, my D is waiting and holding her breath. She has had people around her get accepted - #3 in her class, and a few others that were very high GPA and scores, but she also has heard of a few students that were deferred with low scores and low GPAs- like in the 900 SAT range.

She applied first week of August

ACT 23
Weighted 3.6
SAT 1650 V+M+W
100+ community service hours
Very involved in sports and school

We have a still being reviewed on her page. Spoke to admission director yesterday, and she confirmed that offers are going out to the students that are high scores SAT and grades first. They are starting to complete denial and deferred offers as we speak. She stated that they did start about a week later this year than in the past.

Good luck to everyone

Thanks for the update Westpalmmom. My son also has a 23 ACT but 4.1 weighted GPA (not UCF weighted) I don’t know what his UCF GPA is. We are still waiting for any change in status. The suspense is killing me. He applied for fall but I was assured by an admission rep that everyone that applies for fall is also considered for summer if their stats are not up to par with fall admissions.

^^^
You can figure UCF weighted GPA: remove all elective courses from the mix, i.e. band, fine arts, P.E., etc. UCF only uses core courses: math, science, history, english. Work off of a 4.0 scale, but then add .5 pts for an honors class (i.e. B in honors english = 3.5) and 1.0 pts for an AP class (same B would = 4.0). Because AP classes are considered accelerated classes, all AP classes count. For instance, whereas you cannot use a beginning draw art class in your mix, you can use AP Art History because it’s an AP class.

Then, just figure your GPA the same way you would normally.

What usually happens is that someone whose grades are better in the elective courses (P.E., fine arts, etc) will find that her weighted UCF GPA will drop compared to her high school GPA. If the student does very well in the core courses, dropping those electives usually doesn’t affect the new weighted GPA that much.

Zebes

you have to add in a foreign language too

Has anyone heard back from today?

gailbeth-- can you tell me where you heard this info? “I saw a 24 will be ok as long as gpa is 3.7 or above Otherwise it seems like kids are getting deferred. Ill be keeping fingers crossed for everyone still waiting- keep us posted”

DAUGHTER GOT IN JUST 30 MINUTES AGO !!! What a relief :)

I just got deferred until I send in a copy of my residence card (which I sent like 3 months ago). Thanks UCF!

westpalmmom- when did she apply? And what were her stats?

Hey westpalmmom, what term did your daughter get in for?

Congrats Westpalmmom! Still nothing on my son. Good lord.

Does anyone have an idea of when we’ll hear back? Right now, looking at everyone else getting rejected or accepted, I haven’t seen many individuals getting defered. I’m, literally, crossing my fingers to be defered. The way I see it, it’s like a game. I moved my pieces, by sending in everything, essays, awards, scores, grades, ect. Their choice will be them moving their piece, too. I feel like being defered will make me feel like it’s my turn in the game again. But ‘moving my piece’ is basically like saying, “Keep your grades up, and retake the ACT.” I’m just very confused. My twin brother and I, literally, send in EVERYTHING at the exact same time. He was completly rejected last week, and mine still says it’s under review. I feel two things at this moment-Either they haven’t looked at me yet, they have looked at me an put me off to the side to look over again later, or they already have a decision for me, and are just deciding when to say it. I have a gut feeling the lot of us will hear back this friday-and that scares me. Earlier this month, I would check my status and say, ‘Change already!’ After my brother’s rejected, I’m AFRAID for it to change.

Congrats WestPalmmom! Still no change for my daughter’s!
aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh! lol

WRITEfluidity,
Keep possitive! I hope that by taking longer for you, it will be better news!

@overcome11 - maybe tomorrow! I can’t take much more waiting.

So, apparently the date of application has not much to do with the order of the decisions. This seems very ramdom to me unless the you have amazing stats, in which case they are letting you know really soon.

Thank you, overcome. My AP psychology teacher, who attended University of Florida is crossing his fingers I’m defered. He wants to write them a letter of rec-NOT about the kind of student I am, but about how much I ADORE the school. I am, literally, only interested in UCF. If I don’t get in, I’m doing a year at our local community college, and trying to transfer over. However, due to the family problems I’ve been facing for years, UCF would not only be my college-it would be my home, and my safe place. My parents are already sure I won’t get in, after my brother got in. He’s academically stronger then I am-I only rank over him in awards, community service, and my essays.
