StoneMagic just gave the formula for figuring out your UCF GPA. You should figure yours out so you know for sure. Also, you mentioned that UCF was perfect for you financially because of the Florida Prepaid. The Florida Prepaid can also be used at Florida community colleges. Attending one of the community colleges in the UCF area can guarantee you acceptance into UCF. If escape is becoming necessary, you can definitely make it work. Also, maybe think about applying to some safety colleges in Florida and keep trying to transfer to UCF every semester.

Jordy is right. Valencia College which is right here in Orlando is now offering 4 year degrees in some majors. It is a good school and I have two daughters who have taken classes there. One of them goes to UCF and she feels the classes are better at Valencia due to smaller class sizes. Many of the professors that teach at UCF also teach at Valencia. Going to VCC would gain you acceptance to UCF and you still get all the benefits of living around the UCF campus. There are TONS of students that do this. Perhaps it might be a good fit for both you and your brother? AND the cost is cheaper.

I thank you for the advice, really, but community college in Florida is not an option, for personal reasons. I’ve looked at all angles, but there are no other schools in Florida that even compare to UCF, in my mind (that I have a chance of getting into). I can get into specific schools here: NIU, SIU, USU U of I in chicago…but, like I said, I dislike all of them. They don’t have what I’m looking for, only UCF does. It’s perfect for me, and I won’t settle for the schools around here, paying. $12,000 a year for tuition, at tier 4 schools, when UCF will cover that, and they’re tier one. Please, just trust me when I say UCF is the only play that can offer me what I want and need. All my life, I’ve just settled with things, never trying to reach for better…and I’m not going to do that anymore. I will do anything to get into this school.

I believe you when you say UCF is the only school for you. It’s very evident how much you love this school. However, the advice alongwait and I offered was a solid Plan B to get you there if you don’t get accepted. You mentioned going to a community college in Illinois if you don’t get in, but a Florida community college that leads to UCF isn’t an option??? AND, you have a Florida prepaid which would cover the community college here, but you would have to pay out of pocket for one in Illinois. It seems that staying in Illinois would be settling. Coming to Florida and attending whatever school you had to to get you to UCF would be the “doing anything to get into this school” route.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you’re offered acceptance and you won’t have to make these tough decisions and everything you wished for will come true.

My daughter just called admissions and asked how long before they would reach a final decision after having her new ACT/SAT scores and the lady said: 3 weeks!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

I understand exactly what you mean, it makes perfect sense. However, my parents won’t allow it, for many reasons I can’t state. Also, there’s the added espensive of finding an apartment down there.

D sent an email last night to admissions stating that her October SAT was not better than her ACT had been and did not want to send it. Her status changed this morning and she was accepted!!! yeah, finally! Summer, 4.1 UCF gpa and a 23 ACT, great extra currics, leadership and essay! Please call or email if you wrote on your app that you were taking the Oct, Nov tests and don’t want to wait for a decision based on the results. They are waiting for them! Good luck everyone!!!

In our case, I think we will have to just wait my daughter gpa is 3.4 weighted, 24 act, but the first SAT was 1010 math and reading, with the writing 1620. She went up this time to 1080 with the reading and math and all combined 1710, so We might need to wait for them to see the new score as her gpa is low.

I also just emailed them, kyle. I just stated that I did not, as I originally planned, retake the ACT this month. I am doing so in december, however. I suppose a decision will be coming soon enough, then, and that makes me very nervous.

My d got this email from admissions when we asked if they were waiting for the new scores:
“In order for an application to be reviewed, an application, fee, high school transcript and test scores will need to be on file. If an applicant’s initial test scores are not competitive for admission, the Admission Committee may recommend the applicant to re-test. Therefore, we would defer the application for new test scores whether the student indicated he/she was planning to re-test or not.
I hope that helps”.

What does this mean??? I understand then that if the scores are not high enough for them, and they were waiting for them, they would have deferred the applicant and told him to send new scores. Sooo, this mean they have not reviwed the application yet?!

The GPA would be borderline and I would have retaken the ACT before you applied, but if you did take almost all IB, I think you’re in for Summer.

Your GPA is close, though it would be better if your ACT was 2 points or so higher. However, your ECs, specifically the music portion and the fact you’ve written two novels, propel you above the mundane stuff you see such as Beta Club, etc. I would recommend applying for Summer as well to give you every advantage, and I don’t have a crystal ball, but I’d say you’re in because you bring something unique to campus. Keep those fingers crossed!

That’s a form letter based on the question you asked regarding test scores. IF they determine the test scores are too low, the decision will be deferred until you re-take the test and score higher. That’s a lot of pressure on the next test, so I’d take a class and put 4 hours a day in studying for it…I hate to see it come down to one test, but that’s what it means. HOWEVER, that is ONLY if the test scores are too low, and I would take the next one you can as the slots will start to fill up and waiting too long means you could be out.

i’m from PA from one of the top high schools in the nation
24 ACT
1080/1680 SAT
3.3-3.4 recalculated GPA
75+ hours of community service
good essays
varsity cheerleader
after school job
dancer
guitar
and more ecs.

Don’t underestimate the value placed on taking a difficult course schedule, IB/AP being the most challenging, that shows you put forth extra effort and didn’t settle…did you take the SAT and do worse than the ACT? Again, I’d give you a solid 75% chance of being accepted, especially if you applied for Summer.
