Hearing back about business honors

Anyone know when those of us who applied to the kelley honors program will hear back?

Thanks

Sometime in July. It would be nice to know sooner because of the need to change one’s schedule for sophomore year to include honors business courses. But they say they’ll send instructions and work with you on this so that you can meet the Program requirements before I-Core.

Wow, that is a long time. Yeah, that is concerning, i’d really like to get some of the honors classes done this fall rather than all in the spring.

I heard back in early July. Don’t worry, they save a lot of spots in classes speccifically for new honors students, so you will be able to drop your regular class(es) and switch into honors ones if you want.

My s needs to have 9 honors credits for next academic year, but when he registered during March 2011 for fall 2011 semester, all the sections of x205 were full, so he is on the waiting list. Hopefully like maxellis said that they saved a lot of space for honors students, so he will be able to get in. Apparently, HON-H204 is not offered for fall 2011, I am not sure if it will be offered in spring 2012. What other honors S&H classes would you recommend? Thanks.

sun168, for some reason the numbering for the HON H203 (A&H classes) and HON H204 (S&H classes) were changed. The new class numbers are in the H230’s. You can find descriptions of the classes here.

You can look at past semesters of H203 and H204 classes and compare them with the Fall 2011 honors offerings and see many of the same honors course titles and professors, but that the Fall 2011 classes don’t follow the old numbering system.

There are still lots of openings in these classes; but they will fill up quickly when freshmen admitted to Hutton begin signing up for them during orientation very soon, so he should sign up for the COAS honors classes as soon as possible.

Is your son in Kelley? My son took the following classes from Hutton/Kelley to get the honors notation, and they were all very doable.

HON H203 (new course numbers are roughly HON H230-239)
HON H204 (new course numbers are roughly HON H230-239)
HON S103 (don’t know if these offer these topics classes in honors versions anymore)
BUS A205
BUS A207
BUS K204
BUS X202

You are allowed two classes from each department in Kelley to apply to the honors notation, and the two accountings and the two technology classes all have good grade inflation, though the two accountings are tough to get into if you don’t have a lot of credits. There are still openings for X202 in Fall 2011.

The class BUS Z304 is the honors version of Z302, which everyone in Kelley must take and you have to be a junior or above to take. So this is one he could take junior or senior year for honors credit, to get that seventh class. The class is almost a guaranteed A-.

Thanks bthomp for the helpful information, I was puzzled why HON H203 and H204 are not offered for fall 2011, now I see what’s going on.

My son is in Kelley as well as in Hutton, and is waiting for the result from business honors program now. He didn’t take any honors classes in his freshman year, so he has to catch up on it.

The honors classes are probably easier than non-honors in COAS; and in Kelley, the honors courses tend to have huge grade inflation. Another benefit to the Kelley honors courses is that some meet only two days a week instead of three. These include A205, A207, K204, and X202. And of course the Kelley honors classes are much smaller than non honors. Hope your son gets a good schedule!

It is mid of July now. Did anyone hear anything back about business honors?

nada. neither have my friends who also applied for the program… i’m getting more impatient than i should, but i was hoping to know a week ago.

Haven’t heard anything yet. Hopefully it comes this week, although they did say the end of July. Tough wait though.

murtyjones and Marmala,

Please check your email or your mailbox. The letter should be in. Received today. Congratulations to all who get in!
