Hearing Before M10?

@VACAlover did your child apply to Exeter?

No, we are looking at less competitive schools.

so if we have been getting emails about Lawrenceville and their biweekly video - are these sent to every applicant or only certain applicants? Is it a good sign or no sign? Does everyone who applied to Lawrenceville get these? I asked this in another thread but didnā€™t hear from anyone

Donā€™t read anything into anything absent an acceptance notification.

^^^^This x 1000.

I recall that five years ago, Fefekid1 received emails from one schoolā€™s faculty offering to answer any questions we might haveā€“this was prior to March 10. We thought it might mean an acceptance. It didnā€™t. FK1 never made it off that wait list.

thanks all - nothing to hang on to to raise my hopes - the schools I really want are not the big names but I am afraid they will get too many applicants as well - I am starting to get bummed out

@Rathgar: I would stay off the forum until M10. I think it has a way of spinning up anxiety in all but the most sanguine of parentsā€¦

With one of our kids, we were able to accurately predict the result about 12 hours in advance of the official notification being posted. We received an email from our UPS Prime account letting us know that we had a package scheduled for delivery the next day. When we looked up the company, it was a mailing service located in the same town as the school. Figured they wouldnā€™t go to all that trouble to ship a rejection letter, which could go out by regular mail, so it must be a welcome kit.

@EarlyMTNester: You might have just sparked a big increase in new UPS Prime accounts.

I didnā€™t even know they had a prime account:). What about Fedex thoughā€¦

Fedex has it, I get a text message from them even time they have a package addressed to my home.

Poor FedEx. There are stories every year about the legions of applicants who call their local FedEx depot to ask if there are any packages for them. I am pretty sure FedEx needs to get on with deliveries vs. answering that type of call.

It is hard to wait. But wait you must. There is nothing that can be done at this point BUT wait. The good news is that you will know in about 2 weeks. Maybe use this time to decide what you will do in each of the possible situations (acceptance/denial/waitlist/acceptance without FA/etc.) ā€“ there are many possible scenarios at this stage.

As I advised on a different thread: better to assume you will not get in anywhere. That way you will make sure you have a good contingency plan and can be pleasantly surprised if you donā€™t need to use it.

Good luck to all of you ā€“ it wonā€™t be long now. You can do this!

I generally agree with those who advise not to read into the pre M10 communications. But, donā€™t worry about the trouble to FedEx or UPS. Boarding school applicants are few in each FedEx/ups local office. They have this service to mean they have the capacity to provide the service, which is to meet their customersā€™ needs for the service. It only gives you one day in advance though for reassurance OR disappointment. Choose your poison if you want to. Regarding school communications, if FA office contacts in late February, it is a good sign, which often means your file likely has been passed to FA from admissions. Not a guarantee of admission but if FA works out your chance of getting in is high. Good luck to all!

It is late February. Do FA offices often contact the applicants? Or is it only occasional?

Iā€™ve heard from FA office in late February before, unfortunately it was to say that DD would not be receiving any aid IF admitted and would like to have her considered for admission as a Full Pay. It is definitely the exception in my experience. Iā€™ve had 3 kids go through the process and it happened just the one time.

Only occasionally and when they seriously consider admitting the student but for some reason are not sure about the amount of FA they will offer (or whether they can offer any). In even rarer cases, they use the communication to gauge interest and try to solicit the student to choose their school among others when they are fairly certain the student will have options on M10.

Edit: MOST students will receive both satisfactory admission and FA decisions on or after M10. Seriously, donā€™t stress over the lack of preM10 communications. It is RARE.

Also try to stay off CC because it is stress-inducing.

I really need to follow my own advice because Iā€™m too addicted to CC, especially since there are only 2 weeks left before decisions come for meā€¦ I just realized Iā€™ve been spending a little TOO much time here when I noticed how ā€œLog inā€ on the CC page has been changed to ā€œSign inā€ā€¦ :!! :-SS :-w

I have a friend who is an admin to the admission director in one of the top day schools in Boston. She told me they done. Now it is just wait until 3/10. I asked if she wanted to share any names. She laughed

When my son went thru this process we did not hear any official acceptance before M10 within the TSAO. But one of the day schools mailed out his package on Mar 5.

He also received very frequent emails and contact from a coach at a TSAO school beginning in Jan. None of the emails said anything about admission but it was clear the coach wanted him to attend.

After M10 however the schools open up the flood gates with regard to contact.
