Pre-M10 Admissions Offers?

Has anyone ever heard or experienced someone approached before March 10 with a FA or scholarship offer? One person told my Dad that his son was offered a scholarship (he was a football player) a few days before M10. I haven’t read anything about this in any of the threads on here.

Yes, some notifications for scholarships are made prior to M10. Check this current thread: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-parents/2117541-merit-scholarship-notification-p1.html

Yes - we had 2 schools contact us early. We had one experience that was kind of strange, but nice in the end. We had a call a couple of weeks before March 10th - with some urgency from an alum…stating that they needed another interview ASAP…we just went along with it…confused because we had already interviewed at the school. Turns out this was for a special scholarship…we found out a couple of days before March 10th…also we had a couple of schools invite us to alumni events and fundraisers in late February so this was a “hint” of sorts. :x

This is helpful. Thanks very much!

I had a parent tell me “she doesn’t even have to apply” about her daughter who had impressed a coach. I am pretty sure that’s stretching it a bit. LOL

We heard a week in advance from one school. It was an informal, “If we offered X amount of aid, could you swing it?”

I was notified of my acceptance before M10 anyway, but I was given information on how I wasn’t chosen for a merit scholarship but was still admitted to Culver Academies before I got my actual acceptance letter, if that adds anything to the conversation.

The TSAO schools have a firm rule about not notifying anyone ahead of the March 10 date. My son received a lot of email traffic from one of the TSAO schools ahead of the M10 date. None of the emails mentioned anything about admission, but it was clear from the communications that the coach wanted him.

We applied to a school with rolling admissions and got a call today saying they were waiting on one more thing (Principal recommendation) before they could call us with “good news”. I’m still trying not to read into it, but it sounds positive to me.

Can schools see if you applied to other schools if you go through SAO? Lizardkid did indicate the calling school was his first choice in his interview, but he panicked and felt the need to send in a few more applications over break. It seemed a weird coincidence we got the call right after we did the applications.

@vwlizard What school, if you don’t mind telling?

I don’t want to say publically, but not one that you are applying to.

My son was offered a music merit scholarship (for 1/2 of tuition)and the other half a FA package if we accepted that same day we interviewed. As much as he wanted to seal the deal and get it over with we were honest about still looking at other schools. The coach calls me once a week and has emailed me saying they want my son and hope he still has interest. Now im wondering if we shouldve just taken the offer. All this waiting has me feeling like I’m on a gameshow!
