Applying to:
University of Virginia
Cornell
Penn State
George Mason University
University of Delaware
Virginia Tech
SUNY: Albany?

Most of those are pretty safe. Cornell may be the only REACH. No consideration for William and Mary?

ehhh not really, i know its a great school and very comparable to UVA, but I've been Williamsburg and know I would hate it. The town is stuck in the 17th century, and Williamsburg itself has no middle class. There is a high suicide rate and there is nothing to do. It really seems like a total bore. Besides the fact that W&M doesnt have my major.

understandable, i really think you are a solid applicant to any of those. just try to stand out in the application process and you'll be fine.

Your info on W&M is quite shaky. The suicide rate rumor is an urban myth. W"burg is not boring esp compared to Blacksburg or State College. Its prob a moot point based on your grades and scores. Good luck with your search.

swish, ive spent time in both blacksburg and w'burg and imo the former has more going on because tech is so much bigger in terms of students (although i guess that means its totally dead in the summer), but ive just always had a bad vibe about williamsburg, nothing personal to any w&m kids.

as for state college, id imagine the same scenario as tech, but to a much greater degree (larger size still, and reputation as a huge party school)

Sigh, reject if you were Asian, but since you are Black, in at all.

buummmmppp

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh get off the suicide thing!!!! Get with it and quote some solid facts as compared to other schools or suicides of young adults between the ages of 18-22. Maybe it's good that you don't like the Burg dude because you know, you probably wouldn't fit in here.

Since you are an African American..............you will get in everywhere you apply. That's easy. Peace out.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

matches for all except penn and cornell, which are slight..VERY SLIGHT, reaches.

pedsox

"Maybe it's good that you don't like the Burg dude because you know, you probably wouldn't fit in here." What is that supposed to mean?
Also i dont appreciate the generalization about my race

forizzlejdl
im not sure if you knew this since u just said "penn" but its penn state im applying to, not UPenn

Well, what's up with the AFRO ninja....................you are the one who initially mentioned your race. Since you did, I said that because of your race you would be accepted to those colleges you mentioned. When you dissed William and Mary and talked smack about suicide and the Burg...........well, you know the rest.

Peace out. Don't care what color your skin is. You are the one who has it in your title. I'm not WhitePedsox. What is so hard about this?

Peace out.

^^^i know several white, jewish, black, and hispanic people who have afros... just having "afro" in a username is not necessarily indicative of the user belonging to any particular race.

thought that i am defending racial generalizations, but I think he was referring to the title of the thread?

sorry thought should have been *not

"Well, what's up with the AFRO ninja"

i thought he was talking about the username...

Hi. i was wondering what you guys thought my chances were of getting into Penn. I'm an African American student that lives in West Philadelphia. I go to the 53rd ranked public school in the country (Masterman). I have a 3.85 GPA. 1980 SAT Score (630M, 680V, 670W). I received a 670 on the SATII BIOM and a 570 on the Physics SATII. I also had a 4.0 GPA at a Dual Enrollment BIology Course at Community College of Philadelphia. I have all honors/AP's (AP Calc BC,AP Phisics: C, Honors Social science:Government/Economics,Honors English, Honors African American History, and Honors Biology) I have alot of extra-curriculars, community service, etc. Strong recommendations and really good essays. I was also accepted into a science internship at Thomas Jefferson University. I will be researchin viral genetics and embryology. I'm trying to get into the College of Arts and Sciences. i want to major in biology (with a concentration in pre-med) Do you think I can get in?

^^^lol, i know who this...

I think you'll get it, but it's too bad you didn't apply ED (i think you would've been a shoo-in).

well duh im black, its in the 2nd line of the title post. i meant generalization as in "you'll get in anywhere simply because your black"

I think you have a really good shot at all of the schools you applied to except Cornell..

afro_ninj4, people on this board are wayy to ignorant...sad right...to think i thought we were the generation that would change things...
