Help A Lost Girl Out, Please.

I applied to a lot of schools b/c I didn't know where to go. I still don't know what I want. Here are the few I'm considering and what I have to pay yearly:

U of Chicago - 7K
Princeton - 2k
Brown - Not sure. Between Chicago and Pton for sure
U of Rochester - Not sure. Between Chicago and Pton for sure.

I'm going to try to visit U of C and Pton, but I'm not sure my parents will let me.

A little about me: I really wanted to go to Yale, but I was waitlisted. Thing is, though, I never really knew that much about any of my schools (including Yale). I thought I had a shot at Chicago b/c they didn't place as much emphasis on SAT Subject Scores (which mine were subpar - 650 math 2, 680 bio, 700 english lit) and ACT scores (31), so I slowly fell in love with that school. Now, I'm considering other schools as well.

I'm so indecisive. I don't know what my major will be, but I'm thinking (and this is likely to change) that I want to major/minor in English Literature and Religion, fulfill law school reqs, and go on to law school.

I come from a very competitive, public technology school, and a lot of my extracurriculars focused on this but I also LOVE community service. I'm Muslim, and I don't know much about my religion, but I want to learn more. I also don't want to go to a school that is religiously affiliated or most of the student body leans one clear way in regards to religion. I want an open, fairly liberal campus with students who are very academically challenged. I don't want to join a soroirity or like get drunk all of the time - or at all for that matter. I want to learn, ave intellectual discussions, but still go out to concerts/etc fun things outside of campus (or on campus). I am low income, so financial aid is important to me, especially if I end up studying something like Classics.

I'm not sure what I want...but I want to be challenged academically, not have to worry too much about money, and be surounded by intelligent, really fun people who are not arrogant, anti-social, or snobby. I'm worried about Brown and Rochester's open curriculum b/c I don't know if I can even make such choices considering I'm so incredibly undecided as to what major I'll end up in. On the other hand, I think it would be interesting and a great experience to have an open curriculum. Not sure.

Thanks. I know this is pretty long. Lastly, I'm from S. CA. I also got into UCB and UCLA, but decided not to go b/c I don't like UCLA's atmosphere + UCB scares me a bit. Not sure why. I feel like someone will trample me with a bike and scold me for eating meat.

Congrats on your acceptances.

You need to visit both U of C and Princeton and then decide. You won't go wrong with either, but you need to make a visit to get the feel for yourself.

Personally, I think I would choose Princeton. It's cheaper for you and you come from a low income family. Academically, I see no difference between U Chicago and Princeton. How do you feel about going to school all the way across the country?

LOL! Berkeley has a very strong academic reputation with a street tough swagger that is not for everyone, I agree. But it really is nowhere near that bad...

Haha. Thanks, UCBChemEGrad. I'm sure it's exaggerated, but I still don't think it would work for me.

I will definitely try my best to visit, but I probably will only be able to during like the weekends, which I know limits what I see very much. It doesn't matter how far the school is for me. Either way, I won't be able to come home every month, so it's not a big deal.

Here are some of my thoughts: I know so little about Pton, but the finaid is definitely keeping me very interested. I know a fair amount about Chicago, and I love how it seems to quirky and intellectual (which fits me well) but hate that it seems so anti-social (which is definitely not me). Their really strong core curriculum worries me as well. Before hearing from Pton, I was so set on Chicago (assuming I wouldn't get accepted into Yale). It felt right to me. Now, I'm having doubts.

Congratulations! You have been accepted into some great schools! To me, Princeton sounds like it fits best, especially if you can go there for only $ 2000/year. Brown is probably "quirkier" than Chicago, whatever "quirky" means to you. Brown also is different from most other colleges in that aside from the requirements for your major or any minor there are no required courses.

Wow. Thanks. I neer would have guessed Brown is quirkier than Chicago. I convinced my mom - I'm visitning Chicago and Princeton, and I'll end up choosing between those two, then.

Thanks. :]
