people! i got rejected from every single top uni i applied to. now i've got a scholarship from this mediocre university, and i was thinking if i could get a transfer after one semester. what steps would i have to take. will i be given substantial amounts of financial aid? and will the name of the university be given consideration? oh and plus i'm an international student from pakistan.

can't transfer to a top tier after one semester if you're an incoming freshman...you'll have to finish 30 hours of credit(a full school year) before transfering...but after that, if you have good grades, it should be no problem

depending on where you're trying to transfer, you might have to have more than a year done. i'm applying to transfer to a private after 1 year, but a lot of schools ask for more. also, you'll probably get less fin. aid as a transfer and you can't take it with you (from my experience).

nahrafsfa is correct. Not only should you have good grades, but they should be excellent. I got lucky transferring with a 3.65, but my friend had a 3.8 and was still rejected from UVa. 2 years of college with stellar grades is probably a better bet at getting in the college of your preference.

i don't care how many years it takes, or how excellent the record should be. i just want to hear that i CAN graduate from Hopkins or any of the ivies with a lotta aid cuz i really can't afford them. my SATs were great and so was my school record.

Arseus..what schools were you rejected from?

i got rejected from Hopkins(deferred first), vassar, macalester, and middlebury.

im sorry to hear that...well im sure if you work hard at an easier college you will be able to transfer into one of those schools! What were your safeties?

none! that was the problem. i was too over-confident. now i might have to go to this university in new jersey, which is not confirmed as well. the problem les with finance.

what universtity? The same thing happened with me and transfering..I got into UNC and UVA..but just got rejecetd from NYU

Arseus, what year are you in and what are your stats?

fairleigh dickinson university. i'm not even sure if i'm going or not

i took a gap-year after graduation from high school. i applied for 2005-2006 year. now i'm comtemplating my options for the future.

Um, I was just searching for info about Fairleigh and came across this.

Question: How in the world is Fairleigh considered mediocre? My brother chose it over Columbia. I mean, come on. Aren't we being the tiniest bit... pretentious?

I think the school offers a great selection of majors and concentrations, a fantastic and exceedingly helpful and friendly staff, and an extremely well-rounded required curriculum.

So what's the problem, exactly? Muffy and Buffy from the country club don't deign to go there and it's automatically deemed "mediocre"?

The truth is, in another couple of years, if you were to be accepted to any of the schools you listed, you most likely would not get a significant amount of financial aid. Certainly not a scholarship. If you are that strapped for money and don't want to end up paying off student loans for years, be happy and content with the school that you are lucky enough to be in AND have a scholarship to. I'm sure that there are hundreds of international students who would do anything to be in your situation. Don't take it for granted. You obviously didn't get in to those schools for a reason. Don't be expecting them to come pounding on your door, throwing acceptances and scholarships at your feet after a year in a college that you have deemed below you. HIGHLY unlikely.

your brother chose Fairleigh because they have transgendered bathrooms

lolzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Um, is that supposed to be comedy? If so, you might want to look to someone other than Opie and Anthony for inspiration. Not the most intelligent of commentary...

By the way, fantastic welcome. I'm so glad I joined this forum.

There is plenty of financial aid for transfer students. The problem is with finding aid for international students. A better alternative to Farleigh Dickinson University would be to attend CC for two years. Membership in PTK opens up opportunities for scholarships at most schools, and it would be cheaper than attending FDU. Additionally, CC students are better candidates for transfer, because they MUST transfer somewhere.

On a side note, Perfect Spiral, FDU is incredibly mediocre in comparison to the schools OP was considering. Average SAT ranges are between 880 and 1140 for the Metropolitan Campus. That's average, period.

listen... i'm not being ungrateful. even WITH the full tuition scholarship, i have to pay about 10,000 US dollars a year for my room and board expenses. i can't do that u see. we might be a little well off here in pakistan but by US standards, let's just say that we don't exactly reside in the upper half. nyway, i've decided to go to this college in karachi: KARACHI UNIVERSITY
