help/advice -Urgent- AP lit/language

HI,
I am a senior and I am plannng on taking one AP english class this commng school year. However I still haven't decided which one i will take, the literature or the writing. I hope you can give me an advice. I also have a few questions; first, In the lit, do you guys read books aloud in class and take turns reading in group like a regular class or is the reading more concentrated at home ?

Second, I know that in both classes you guys write essays, but in which class are the essays more frequent and demanding?

Third, do you have to read boks in the language class?

And finally, Which one did you like more and found more exciting/constructive?

Thank you for the help in advance. I hope someone can help me as soon as possible so that i can starting planing for the next year.

In your other post, you wrote that you spent many of your years in France - I'd go for AP Language, rather than Literature.

No - in my literature class - things aren't read aloud. Sometimes, passages from novels or other sources are handed out and things are discussed. We do a lot of class discussions and the reading is done outside - where separate papers and other things are assigned.

Essays are more frequent in Language and yes, books are read in this class. (The Scarlet Letter and The Narrative of Frederick Douglass seem to be very popular in EngLang classes!)

Also, if you're so concerned about this, talk to the English department at your school and request syllabi for both courses. It might even be possible for you to self-study the other subject if you find yourself motivated enough and willing and worried.

Good luck!

I truly appreciate english literature, and i love classic books. I have read the scarlet letter at least 3 times, and hamlet, a tale of two cities , et cetera. I really want to take one of those APs. I am very advanced in my writing and enjoy analyzing books for themes, elements and others extremely. I want the couse to be challenging and new for me. With that said, which one do you recommend me to take?

Thank you very much....

if u like books so much i would take literature (however on the ap, the lit ap test is harder than lang). in literature, one of ur essays will be using a book to respond (using quotes and what not). that is really the only reason u read books, so u can use them on the test. the other difference is the passages in literature are more like exercepts from stories and what not (fiction) while passages in language are more non fiction like some kind of science crap like on the sat or something. if u like analyzing books and stuff i would do literature.

I think i may go with literature. I just hope that it will be exciting; the last thing i would want is to read a book that i have already read. I would also want to take an AP italian class, but i don't think it is available yet. I speak french , therefore i think i would have little to gain from a french ap considering that i have lived in france for 13 years and read the most important books.

I think i will go with lit, chem, and us government. However, I don;t know if it would be profitable to take ap government since i just finished Us his 7-- will the class be repetitive?

We didn't read ANY books in my AP English Lang class :S

(Except for four books over the summer)

You should really be asking kids at your school because there's too much variance here. For example the Scarlet Letter would never get read here because it's a book for American Literature. :p
