Help: Advise a Junior Desiring Georgetown

Junior at very competitive HS in Maryland (many APs/a number student with perfect SATs),with SATs 720/750/770, class rank likely in top 5%, one SAT Suject Test 790 US history. Need to take 2 more subject tests (will take Math 1 and World History and maybe Spanish)
My ECs maybe not good enough? mostly revolve around passion for basketball - play varsity and JV; award for effort/leadership at JV level;co-captain of local AAU team last year - but not good/tall enough to play in college.

Clubs/outreach: "It's Academic" but not an officer, NHS as junior, volunteer at shelter that serves food to homeless and poor, volunteer at local basketball camp, will volunteer this summer in South American country to teach basketball and English and goal to become fluent in Spanish (have taken multiple years).

Questions - please advise
1. Is Georgetown a big reach for me? Should I apply ED if this is my #1; prefer EA application
2. Is it best that I apply to multiple schools of this caliber hoping that one will accept?
3. Other schools you may recommend with my profile - just starting on this confusing process

They don’t have ED. What do you plan to study?

history or political science with possible aspirations to become attorney or work in federal goverment, will do mentorship with county council executive this coming year

forgot to say that unweighted GPA 3.9 (take mostly AP or G/t classes)

Then just write good essays. On the one that asks “Why us?” don’t just say Washington DC.

Thanks for advice. Hope to sit in on one of the classes at Georgetown.

Sorry to keep asking, but do you think my chances overall are reasonable?

Yep, it’s up to your essays now.

Yup, it’s definitely the essays. Unfortunately a lot of aspiring Hoyas with great stats don’t realize that.

Answering the OP’s last question:

Georgetown’s EA is a little unusual, in that it is sort of a hybrid between an unrestricted EA and a Single Choice EA. What that means is that Gtown lets you apply early to other schools as long as (1) the other school’s early program allows it (i.e., no SCEA or ED schools) and (2) you would be free to choose Georgetown even if also accepted by the other school. Some of the high-end schools whose EA programs are compatible with Gtown’s EA program are Chicago, Notre Dame, BC, and some of the “public ivies” (most notably Michigan and Virginia). Many people who apply early to Gtown also apply early to some or all of the aforementioned. Hope this helps.
