Hi, I'm from Canada.
I was wondering if anyone has advice in paying for Berkeley, since there are no scholarships/FA for internationals :(

The website says budget of:
$28,897- living on campus, BUT also says "* Non-resident tuition add $22,717. "

Does that mean I have to pay $50k a year for berkeley? Where did that 22K come from-- a crazy way to discriminate?!

If that is so, are there any external scholarships/need blind aid readily available for Internationals and approx how much could it cover? If anyone has experience with this, advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks D:

Yup, it’s really 50k. They add on tuition because we aren’t california residents - as they pay taxes statewide to fund the education that we don’t - so I guess its somewhat fair. I’m next to california, in nevada, and I pay the full amount. Pretty sure the options for international financial aid are highly disappointing if existent at all.

Merit is almost non-existent in Berkeley anymore. The valedictorian at Cal for 2009-2010 only got $2000 as a prize. I mean, it’s not a scholarship, but you can pretty much tell how financially desperate Berkeley is at the moment.

Well, I guess my hopes of attending Berkeley have been mercilessly shattered External International aid is hopeless for undergraduate, and 50k/year is simply too much for me!

What is with California Universities and their brutal financial aid policies >:[

It’s still cheaper than some private schools on the East Coast. Johns Hopkins, for example, the tuition itself is 50K! If you account the dorm and other expenses, I would just quit college for that year and buy a loaded BMW M3 with the same money…
