hi! I know it was a bad idea to wait this long to submit, but there’s nothing I can do about that now. I waited until just past 9 pm PST to attempt to submit my Stanford Early app because I had read that Stanford based its deadlines on Pacific Time, but I got this message on the Common App: “The deadline for the start term and admission plan you have selected has passed. Please review this college’s deadlines and, if available, choose another start term or admission plan with a future application deadline date.”
If Stanford really is accepting the app up to 11:59 PST, what am I supposed to do? The Common App literally will not let me submit under Early Action- am I supposed to submit regular and use the Timestamp as proof that I submitted in time??
I’m pretty sure the Common App times are EST (or EDT, or whatever, they’re eastern time). Meaning that if you try to submit at 9pm PST, you’re submitting at 12am EST, which is past the deadline. I don’t know where you read that Stanford accepts PST and not EST, but the Common App for sure only goes by EST.
I am having the exact same problem! I have sent an email to Stanford, but other than that, I don’t know what else to do besides wait. I’m hoping that if this has impacted enough people, then Stanford will extend its application date to tomorrow.
@anbn123 , my dilemma is that, if we do not submit anything before we are able to call stanford tomorrow morning (as opposed to submitting under regular), we won’t be able to provide proof that we were finished before the PST deadline. so right now, I am debating submitting for regular decision… but I might just wait it out.
I have the same problem. I also sent Stanford an email. On the Common App, it even says this: "the deadline time is either your local time or the school’s time zone, whichever is later."That means we still have 2 hours to submit, but there might be a malfunction in the system… I don’t know what to do
Apparently this same thing happened in 2010… I hope stanford does something about this. I am going to call them tomorrow at 8:30 when they open. All of you do the same in hopes of them allowing us to submit it late.
Whenever my brother applied to college 2 years ago, he said that there were a lot of issues with the Common App too, so many schools ended up extending their deadlines by a week. I’m hoping that that’s the case here too.
On the same boat. I even checked on Stanford’s website and for regular decision they made it clear that application deadlines are Pacific time. Will be calling tomorrow morning!
I will not submit my application under regular because then it will go under the regular pool and I want my application to go to restrictive early action.
Danggg I went to Princeton and I saw that it allows me to submit under restrictive early action. It has the same deadline as Stanford. WTF is going on? I think the problem is just with Stanford… this is complete BS

Everyone send Stanford admissions an email, saying whats going on. Say that you tried submitting at like 9:30 pm pst and it would not let you. And also say that you really want your early action application to go through because you sacrificed a ton for it and also you did not apply early anywhere else b/c of Stanford.
Also, call tomorrow at like 9 am when they open and tell them the same thing. Also, say that it would work for other schools like Princeton. This is b/ci tried to see if it would work for Princeton (I am not applying early to Princeton, just wanted to investigate), and it did. It did not show the same error message. Princeton also had the same deadline, so the issue must be unique to Stanford.
I recommend not to submit your app under early b/c that would just be confusing and then you may not be able to apply early since you already applied under normal.
Wait are you guys submitting your application under regular decision? I am seriously thinking about this, but I don’t know if its a good idea since if Stanford realizes this problem and changes the deadline to a day later, then we get screwed over since we already submitted under regular.
I’m not going to. I’m pretty sure that this will have affected a lot of applicants, so Stanford is going to extend the deadline. And either way, even if you do submit regular, it may be a huge hassle/impossible to change it back to early action, and I’d rather not take that risk.
I agree with you^^^ @anbn123 I am facing a dilemma though because if we do not submit it, then we will not have any proof our application is completely done (no changes) before 11:59 pm. But if we do submit it under regular, then, as you said, it may be a huge hassle or even impossible to change it back to early. I am hoping a lot of applicants have this problem so Stanford will extend the deadline.
I agree with @anbn123 - Stanford is undoubtedly in the wrong here, so they are going to have to do something about it to fix the problem. I don’t think you need to do anything more than wait.
