SATs are whats bothering me ...Crit reading--570, math--630, verbal 660 = 1860, SAT II Bio--660, Spanish--700

Chances for Princeton and Columbia? Is it hopeless considering that my parents arent rich or famous? and would anyone advise applying for a random unpopular major, which one?
thanks!

Eesh, the SATs are kinda killer, if those were stellar, I would have said that you would have a pretty good chance....The 4 langauges might carry you farther at a few of the less selective Ivies though....

lol no chance bro( poor EC's, SAT's)...you would be lucky to get into a state college. You need about 2300+ plus top 5% and amazing EC's to get into princeton.

What state do you live in?

If you live on east coast I would suggest something like penn state.

Wow, thanks guys! gosh i feel much better! (can u feel the sarcasm, lol) but anyhow, thats only half the life story, perhaps Ivy League is too impersonal in that case..btw i don't live in the US, i'm off in the middle east--unfortunately we don't have the privilege of SAT courses, or giant libraries filled with SAT pratice books, (and they dont administer the ACT here) guess that'll hurt me in the end...
And does anyone know the profiles of the Admissions Officers at Ivy League schools, are they x-professors or something? oh, and no one answered me question about applying for random majors??

Perhaps you missed it, my ECs are the best of the best...

Best of the best, well I suppose that's a matter of opinion but I would have to guess Princeton sees much more impressive.

Ivies don't clam to be personal, just demanding of students with the best grades, scores and ECs.

What you plan to major in matters not at ivies.

Your biggest issue is that your SATs are hundreds of points away from being competitive. If you post what you're looking for in a college I'm sure people here will suggest realistic places for you to apply.

You are smart enough to know your chances. Schools care very much about scores! However don't give up ;) who knows what Santa will bring you ;)
best of luck
I hope you get in to at least 1 of those :D

Why do so many people want to be an "aspiring Ivy Leaguer"?

Why not be an aspiring college student, or an aspiring dreamer, or an aspiring skydiver?

Can't you aspire to be something that has a little bit more substance?

You would stand a chance at a place like Vanderbilt, and they have a music college entirely devoted to Undergraduate. If music truly is your thing, then consider it a reach. George Washington University is a good school you'd likely get into, though the test scores definitely hurt. I don't know if you'd like it though...but start looking for schools around that level.

Thanks for the positive and negative comments, these are schools that my teachers and my counselor have recommended for me evidently for other reasons. Always a disappointment to not be good enough, despite four high school years of somnorexia...but if all they care about are SAT scores then it might not be for me--perhaps a resulting antisocial student body?, why not apply for fun? Who knows... :)

Just out of curiosity, are you guys college students at ivy leagues, or high schools students??

Your SAT scores are very poor, comparative to a pool of applicants, and you can't use your international status as an excuse because they are plenty in your position who get scores in the 2100+ range.

However, you might consider applying because it is possible the adcoms might see you as an interesting applicant, but that is up to their discretion and can't be deduced from an oversimplified posting.

Go for it. What's $50-60 in exchange for closure?

Ok, ok, stop dwelling on the SATs (i made my point previously, its up to you to have the intellectual capacity to comprehend it) no one is bothering to answer my other questions, check the other postings!

It doesn't matter to which major you apply to at the end of the day. At almost none of your colleges listed does it make a difference, although to NYU and such it is probably better to NOT apply to the business school or pre-med...

Why don't you check out the University of Colorado-Boulder. I will be applying myself there next year and it is a really GREAT option,...

I graduated from Harvard in '04. There are many high school kids on this site who do not know what they're talking about, but in this case posters are correct. Perhaps your teachers and counselors aren't aware of what it currently takes to get into these schools. I know mine in Canada did not and even in the States many just don't know. Read the highlighted post about everyone having a safety.

As an international it's even harder to get in these schools than it is for an American. I suggest you use US News to check stats for the schools and apply to some where your scores are at least average, above if you need aid.

Stephie you need to get off the defensive, and stop being so demanding. The fact of the matter is that you posted your resume, asked people to give you their honest opinions of your chances, and they did. If you don't like what they have to say, that's terribly unfortunate, but by posting your stats, you have to assume the risk taht somebody will judge you harshly.

But people are being really mean
community college?
wow that's just stupid
i got a worse SAT score than Stephanie but i made it into all of my colleges with scholarships, so there is hope!

and they weren't community colleges, actual universities...sorry if it's not ivy league, but I don't think Seattle University or University of Oregon are bad one either

yeah, some people are being overly critical, but at the same time, the ones who say "you might want to add some more safety schools" all have legitimate points, and it seems that stephie is just putting up blinders to criticism.
