When we move into our dorm rooms, will there be boys to help carry our heavy stuff? Did I read somewhere that there is a fee to borrow handtrucks and moving dollies for dorm move in?

No boys. Darn. Each dorm has this service where you pay a ONE TIME FEE (activity fee) for the year of like $5, and if you do, you can leave your drivers license or FSU card at the desk and check out a hand-truck/dollie, a vacuum, games, pool queue, a broom, etc. And money raised buys new games and funds dorm social stuff.

So when you get there and get your key, sign up. BUT there are HUNDREDS of folks moving in at certain times, and a handful of hand-trucks. We brought one along and shared it as well.

Busy times: Monday if you are rushing, Wed AM most of the day, FRI AM and PM and Sat AM. Slow times are Wed evening, all day Thurs, Friday evening and Sat afternoon.

Is this a joke? No FSU does not set aside a group of boys dedicated to helping the new seminole girls into their dorms, although you’re likely to make new friends in your dorms if they see you struggling with big boxes.

My advice, hog the elevators and in one shot, move all your boxes on to the elevator while getting a friend to keep the elevator open. But a bad thing is you may make some new dorm mates a tad angry at you from the get go :D

^ I think the boy thing was just a hopeful whim that FSU culture lends to boys trying to meet new nole girls by helping them carry their stuff.

Every time I move in my family and I rent our own hand truck cause I have a ridiculous amount of stuff (I think I fit into the van once my first time moving in freshman year…) Anyway, that year I just dumped my stuff onto the grass while my mom parked the car. Then we carried things in trips with it stacked on the hand truck while one person stayed on the grass.

“Is this a joke? No FSU does not set aside a group of boys dedicated to helping the new seminole girls into their dorms…”

Was just asking. Some colleges do have organized crews of volunteer students who help other students moving into dorms. 'sides, I didn’t want to break a nail!

lol

I’m sorry but this was just a funny thread.

My son is involved in the Navigators Christian ministry on campus and I do know that they are planning on helping freshmen move into their dorms starting on Wednesday.

^Good, I might need your son and his gang to help me deal with Sid if he is hogging the elevator with his friend when I need to use the elevator!

Well, since everyone is going to be fighting over the elevators, looks like I will be taking the stairs. sigh

I was in Deviney last year on the 10th floor. Carrying a big box 10 floors in a building that shady is not fun. :(

Haha well let’s just stereotype each other then. I guess I’ll be using my epic muscles to move everything I brought with one arm.

I would recommend if you don’t have a hand truck… bring a big SuitCase or Duffle bag on wheels to haul stuff…and if your folks are bringing ya anyways…they can haul the old suitcases back…but if you do boxes …keep them small in case you are stuck with stairs.

Small hand-carts are easy to get your hands on, but if you can’t and you’re near an Ikea they have great bags that are really cheap and convenient. They cost 59c at the Ikea near my house. I’ll be using 2-4 of them, and I’ll be set for moving in. It’s like carrying around a large re-usable, thick plastic grocery bag.
