Can a taxi driver help me move?

Maybe a silly question but a serious one. Move in day for my dorm is September 2nd which is in the middle of the week. My folks and I decided to drive up here (from Chicago to Minneapolis) early Saturday and they would return home in time to head off to work. It was a better option than losing the days of work. In the meantime I will be living in a hotel for 3 days without them until move in day. Found a deal for $50 a night + tax. Not too bad if I say so myself.

The hotel is only a mile and a half away from the dorm. Public trans is not an option because I would need to walk about 20 minutes to the bus stop first carrying boxes full of stuff back and forth. (The dorm I am at is actually kind of far from the main part campus) I already packed most of my belongings and it looks like I'll have about six boxes. Most of it I told my parents I can buy at school but they didn't listen. Can't rent a car and I'll have no one to help me move.

I figure getting a taxi would be the best way to get my boxes from the hotel to the dorm room. Would the taxi driver be willing to wait several minutes for me to unload everything? Could I even get the driver to help move my boxes into the room? (I would definitely pay extra if I can get the help) The fare itself shouldn't be too bad but I am willing to spot the guy $10-$20 bucks just to help me move for like 15 minutes. My biggest fear is that after I unload everything I can't carry everything at once and I don't want anything stolen.

There will probably be people at the dorm on move-in day to help you. You can just get all your stuff out of the taxi and have some other person help you carry it to your room.

You can also ship some things to make it easier. If you ship all the heaviest and biggest boxes, then you can just walk with the suitcases.

If you’re not as stingy as I am, your plan would probably work.

Standard payment for helping someone move is pizza plus enough beer to get buzzed.
