Daughter has been accepted to both and wants to major in film. Trying to help her figure out which program will have better outcomes for her and which program may best prepare her for a future in film. Right now she wants to direct music videos, but that could change.
My son was accepted to both. Chose Belmont because he felt they were more connected to the music industry. For film Belmont would let her do summer in Hollywood. It looked like a great program
Belmont also will let her do a semester in NYC
Drexel has great internships too It’s a decision we really can’t help you make. Best of luck!
Thanks everyone. After further research, my daughter has decided on Drexel. She did so for a number of reasons, which I’ll share here in case in the future someone has a similar question.
It appears from student comments on other sites that the big emphasis at Belmont is on the majors related to their music programs. According to the attendees, that that’s where the majority of resources go. When you think about it, that’s understandable given where the school is located and how the school has evolved.
Christianity is a huge part of the school and no matter how much she wanted to be in Nashville, she simply could not ignore the fact that it’s woven into just about everything. (We’re Jewish.) And yes, we knew it was a Christian school before we looked at it. It wasn’t until our second visit that she realized that this was something that she couldn’t ignore, no matter how much she loved the idea of living in Nashville.
Lastly, and probably most important is the fact that the film program is fairly new. Belmont has only graduated two classes, which means their alumni network in the industry is much smaller than that of Drexel. In an industry where work heavily depends on who you know, she felt it was better to attend a school with a stronger alumni network.
At Drexel, she’ll have the ability to also do a semester in LA and she can co-op in NYC, should she find an opportunity there. She’ll also be closer to NYC and can take the train or bus in to work on projects should those opportunities present themselves.
Hope your son enjoys his experience @JerseyParents and thanks for taking the time to comment.
Thank you. This is very useful for future readers.
