So I really want to go to a good LAC (I'm looking at Macalester, Carleton, Grinnell, Colby, Kenyon, Whitman, & Puget Sound) but I'm worried because the only business related major that these schools have (besides Puget Sound which has Bus Admin) is economics. So my plan right now is to major in economics at one of these schools. But will this prepare me for a successful future in business? Large state schools offer many more business majors (finance, int'l business), but I really would prefer going to a small school.

btw, I don't yet know what career I want. Maybe consulting or something related to international business.

Is economics considered a good, versatile major?

Economics, finance, accounting, IT are all good majors. Also a foreign language minor is helpful if you wanna do something related to international business.

Economics is a good major, but it is a liberal arts major. If you were to go to a business school, you would take a core business curriculum (including subjects like finance, accounting, marketing, IT etc.). You need to decide which route you want to go – one is not better or worse, they are just different. A couple of LACs do have business programs (ex. URichmond is one) but it is rare.
